You realize that people have different body types, don’t you?

Just trying to provide a little encouragement. Nothing wrong with being tall, thin, and fit!

I’m 6’2”, 175 lbs, 10% body fat. Nobody thinks I look like a cancer patient.

I have a confession to make. I haven’t started any seeds yet. And I’m not going to. I’ve had a ridiculously busy winter and all of this just completely got away from me. :wah:

I’m going to buy transplants from my local garden center and keep it simple this spring. I’ve noticed as my kids get older I get busier.

I usually direct sow cucumbers the first week of April. They usually come up quick but they seem to take a while before they actually start taking off. They really like warmer soil temps.

That’s some hardcore projection.

Sorry guys. Been a very busy winter. Got it up and running.

Welcome to the 2026 Spring Garden Thread.

Here are some useful resource links:

Gardening info/learning:
Home Gardening Certificate Course
LSU AgCenter Main Page
LSU AgCenter Vegetable Planting Guide
Davesgarden.com
Seedsavers Exchange learning page
Epic gardening raised bed plans

• The LSU AgCenter website and planting guide will have almost all the information you need for growing just about anything in Louisiana.
• Davesgarden.com is really useful for their watchdog section which gathers ratings on different seed companies and nurseries.
• The Seedsavers learning page is a very easy to use website that is great for beginners.

Seed/plant websites:
Harris Seeds
Park Seed
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (rareseeds.com)
Gurney’s
Migardener.com
Dixondale Farms
Willhite Seed

To my knowledge these are very reputable sites for ordering seeds. I’ve also ordered seeds from various sellers on amazon with no problems.

Here are some useful links to learn about different products for disease and pests:

Organic disease and pest management:

Neem Oil
Liquid Copper
Pyrethrin
Spinosad
Bacillus Thuringiensis
Hydrogen Peroxide / Hydrogen Peroxide mixing chart for garden use

Non-organic disease and pest management:

Fungicides:
Daconil
Mancozeb

Insecticides:
Bonide Eight (permethrin)
Sevin dust
Liquid Sevin (Zeta-Cypermethrin)

If there are any other products or links that you'd recommend, please let me know and I'll add them.

LSU Ag articles for common spring plants:
Tomatoes

Seeds should also be started 8-10 weeks prior to planting in the ground in the spring

I find this to be a little too soon based on past experience. My transplants typically would become overgrown before plant out. I aim for 6 weeks.

Peppers

Plant seed 8-10 weeks prior to the spring planting date

Eggplant

Start seeds 8 to 10 weeks before the desired time of transplanting.

Cucumbers

Gardeners in North Louisiana can plant cucumber seed or transplant from April to mid-May. A fall crop can be planted in early August. South Louisiana gardeners can plant seed from mid-March to mid-May. A fall crop is planted in late August in the south.

Had a huge problem with stray cats using my flower beds as a litter box at my old house years ago. One thing that worked well was using a citrus oil spray. Cats do not like citrus.

I paid more than that in taxes on my last check. :banghead:

What would I possibly need that for? Better to give it to Somali Learing Centers. They need it more than me.
Drink water first. Wait about 30 minutes before coffee. That should help reduce cortisol spikes.

These people think any sort of philosophical or ideological disagreement, any different world view than theirs, is hate. It's asinine. I refuse to be on THAT side.

Get an adjustable fold up bench for like $100 and then you can throw in the following:

I have one of these Flybird adjustable benches and it is pretty solid for the price. Folds up and easily stores under my bed when not in use.

I use strictly dumbbells for all of my lifting and there is plenty you can do with dumbbells only.

Dumbbell press
Incline/decline DB press
Chest flys
Bent over row
Incline row
DB lat pullovers
Overhead tricep extension
Skull crushers
DB kickback
Military press
Lateral raises
Rear delt fly
Incline DB curl
Preacher curl
Hammer curl
Goblet squat
Bulgarian split squat
DB step ups (I use a jump box for this)
DB Romanian deadlift

Those are some of the ones I do weekly. I may have left a couple out. But as others have said, increase the weight and focus on fewer reps, rep to failure, and progressive overload. Then it will take months before you really start seeing results. But you will feel amazing. (Once DOMS goes away )

ETA: I highly recommend keeping a journal to track your progress. It also helps with motivation.

I’m sure it’s come up by now but I haven’t been in a while cause the water was super low. Even for a yak.

that’s a nice trailer setup, was it an ole jet ski one

It’s a Malone Microsport kayak trailer. Very much worth the money. Makes hauling the yaks so much easier. As well as loading and unloading.

Nice!

I wouldn’t call them lunkers but I’ve put a few in the boat this past fall. I passed my old kayak down to my son and he’s been getting his feet wet. Good times.

Also decided to get a trailer last fall because loading these things in the bed of my truck is not only a pain, but it was sketchy.
I shoot for 3 sets of 8-10 reps to where I’m struggling to reach 10 on my first two sets and failing before 8 on my last set. I keep a journal to track it that way I know if I need to add weight.
I’m really curious to see how they portray the spren on screen. Especially the cryptics like Pattern.

Honestly I’d love for Mistborn to be a series, too. But I can see them working as movies.
