Obviously Saturday Night Fever and Disco and then Urban Cowboy and the Texas Honkytonk period of the early 1980s.

In that sense: "Everybody Wants Some"

GO captured the real rave culture of the late 90s early 2000s.

I loved raves before they turned into huge festivals.

Go was awesome.

Some will laugh, but original The Fast and The Furious...not sure if it sprang an era of pop culture or just continued it.

Napoleon Dynamite captured the 80's perfect even though it was made in the 2000's.

I can't think of an intentional period piece from that era. Maybe because I'm watching it now but "Popstar" is the closest that I have on the top of my head.

I love that they get little details right: like everything to do with Jason Siegel's character. NEVER screw with the normal looking guy hanging out with a bunch of punks in the 80s. That dude is insane. But also the moving between the tribes bit, and how fluid the groups were (his best friend outside the core being a goth and probably a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen).

Clerks. Just perfect encapsulation of aimlessness. It is the 90s slacker film except maybe, well, Slacker.

Superbad nailed high school in the mid 2000's.
Scott Pilgrim verses the world pretty well nailed hipster and indie music culture.
PCU perfectly predicted what our universities would become by 2014.
