I think Travolta was in 2 of the best.

Obviously Saturday Night Fever and Disco and then Urban Cowboy and the Texas Honkytonk period of the early 1980s.

As a sleeper, I'd also say Swingers. It's one of the few films that really captured that whole 1950s-ish vibe of the mid 90's L.A. Amazingly, Clueless kind of did the same, just from a way different viewpoint.

Moat of these trends really only lasted about 2-3 yrs.

Dazed And Confused was exactly like my high school in the late seventies.

"Blow Up" did a good job of capturing the Zeitgeist of 1960s "swinging London".

Boyz In Da Hood was an uncanny recreation of what it was like for me growing up on the mean streets of da 70809. Woodland Ridge, y'all.

Seriously, The Ice Storm nailed the adult flakiness of my 70s era childhood. It felt like biography.

GO captured the real rave culture of the late 90s early 2000s.

American Gigolo (movie almost predicted the entire 80's)

Wall Street - not just the money aspect but the style, culture, lingo, etc.

I know it's not a favorite on here but I still think Singles totally captures early 90's culture.

Oh, and Rocky IV.

I thought Superbad was kind of timeless, not necessarily capturing the mid-00s. The soundtrack and vibe was essentially 1970s and the actions of the kids were kind of 90s-ish (Rogan's teenage years).

It's an incredible movie, but I don't think of it as a go-to time capsule type of film.

I think the late 90s teen movies like "Can't Hardly Wait" do a much better job.

As for more adult 90s "rave culture" mentioned earlier, GO was a great choice. I also think "Hackers" really got the new-wave cyberpunk freakshow stuff right too.

Not a movie, but Stranger Things has done a great job of the 80s.

I think that it encapsulates the time with the cell phone and before the smart phone, so it bleeds from the late 90s to mid 2000s. Basically a decade. And 70s and 80s music was incredibly popular when I was in high school, so it works from that as well. It was very much shot as a period piece from the start, so it has aged very well as a result.
