Brian Kelly Addresses Florida State Coaching Vacancy, Calls Job An 'Honor'

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports
Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly has weighed in on the head coaching vacancy at Florida State, expressing admiration for the Seminoles' football program and its history.
Florida State recently fired head coach Mike Norvell, opening another high-profile coaching position in college football.
During an appearance on *College Sports Radio* on SiriusXM, Kelly was asked about the Florida State opening and whether he would consider the opportunity.
"When you're talking to an unemployed football coach, every job's a great job," Kelly joked.
"But Florida State, look, I've got a great history with Florida State, great games. I know what that's like, the history and tradition of Florida State, playing in that state, and the fan base."
Kelly added that leading a program with Florida State's tradition would be an attractive opportunity.
"Certainly, leading that program, from anyone's perspective, would be an honor and privilege," Kelly said.
The former LSU coach also discussed the changing landscape of college football, emphasizing that traditional powerhouse programs can no longer rely solely on their history and brand recognition to remain competitive.
"Nothing's what it used to be! Everything has changed," Kelly said.
He pointed to Indiana's recent national championship as an example of how programs without a traditional football pedigree can now compete at the highest level.
Kelly has been out of coaching since his departure from LSU, which hired Lane Kiffin as his replacement.
While Kelly did not specifically say he was pursuing the Florida State job, his comments suggest he holds the Seminoles' program in high regard as the school searches for its next head coach.
