CFP Committee Chair Explains Why Alabama Is Ranked So Far Ahead Of Tennessee

USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect
College Football Playoff selection committee chairman Hunter Yurachek explained one of the more controversial decisions in Tuesday night's initial CFP rankings: Alabama coming in at No. 5, eight spots ahead of Tennessee at No. 13.
Both teams have two losses, but Tennessee defeated Alabama 26-10 on October 17.
During an appearance on ESPN, Yurachek explained that Alabama's overall résumé, particularly its quality wins, gave the Crimson Tide the advantage.
"I think you look first at Alabama went on the road and beat the team that we have ranked sixth this week in Kentucky," Yurachek said.
"They also beat South Carolina, who's ranked in the top 25, and then, I think, many forget that they went on the road and beat Mississippi State when Mississippi State was undefeated and at full strength."
Yurachek pointed to those three victories as the difference between the two teams.
"Yes, they had a loss to Tennessee. Tennessee doesn't have the same level of quality wins. They do have the win against Alabama, but you have to go a little bit deeper to see Tennessee with another quality win on their schedule."
