The character was originally slated to make a return in Daredevil: Born Again prior to the original iteration of that series getting scrapped for something closer to the Netflix series.

After the numerous changes made by Kevin Feige to the series, however, it would appear that Bernthal is back in.

This comes from Bounding Into Comics:

quote:

Simply put, Disney was forced to scrap the entire series halfway into filming due to its creative direction’s poor reception, and one of the biggest stars who was apparently disappointed in this particular direction Disney was taking the series is Punisher actor John Bernthal.

Tiktok star Cameron Silas took to social media to share an exchange she had with The Punisher star, claiming that Bernthal had revealed that when he was first approached to reprise his role in Daredevil: Born Again, he “hated” what they were doing with the character before the rewrite.

“Had the pleasure of meeting Jon Bernthal again today!” prefaced Silas, adding, “got to talk to him about Daredevil Born Again.”

She then claimed, “He told me he hated what they were doing with DD before the whole rewrite, and he actually turned down the project but now that Karen is back (amongst other things) he’s back in.”

Let me guess - Punisher had a young female protégé that would take the reins from him after he dies in cowardly fashion

This is great news if he is back. He was the last piece they needed after bringing Karen, Foggy, and Bullseye back recently.

Of course. Subvert traditional masculinity in favor of a bland female that tries to act like a man. It's the Hollywood formula these days.

shite. We have to look at that living collection of skin blemishes again?

Besides the fact her character was excruciatingly irritating.

The comics modern iteration and spin is actually much worse than this.

They brought his wife back from the dead and retconned her to make it where all his anger was for naught because she was about to leave him and take his kid away because he was a white supremacist.

It is amazing how people that hate a character want to frick up other people's enjoyment. Just a weirdly common a-hole behavior with IP recently.

Punisher runs hot and cold over the years with regards to treatment, in part because the character got horribly overexposed in the late 80s / early 90s (going from supporting player in Spider and Daredevil, to his own limited series, to his own regular series, to having a motion picture and three series running at once. At a point, they shut down all his books, rebooted him, and entered a “dork age” that didn’t end until Garth Ennis went full on black comedy in Welcome Back Frank.

Since roughly Dark Reign, though? Mainline Punisher has gotten repeatedly shite on because someone at Marvel finds it funny and/or wants to kill off the character’s popularity.

This is less an issue with the MAX label Punisher, though that character was definitively killed off some years back in a grand finale IIRC.

I know I missed a few issues but I don't remember anything about him being white supremacy. I remember it being about her appalled at him being a murderer and that he was always unhinged.

Maria also turns out to be pregnant and Frank teleports himself to Weirdworld where he helps orphans during the ongoing Civil War there.

And for all the jokes of them replacing Frank as the Punisher with a gay black female who is also trans; they did replace Frank as the Punisher. But they replaced him with a new character Joe Garrison, who is a white male former black ops Shield agent. And yes even though they got rid of the classic Skull logo they do pay homage to it with his design, including the utility belt having the teeth design on it.

It’s unbelievable right? Disney would never substitute a gay diverse woman into a existing intellectual property

Can’t wait to see Leslie Jones take Bernthal’s mantle and show the streets what’s up

I made fun of conservatives in another thread for being soft. and crying about everything.

But in cases like this, I really get it. Just murdering the backstory of the character for DEI insertions. Do we hate the character? Must

The new Punisher is a white male. His name is Joe Garrison and he is a black ops Shield agent.
