I really enjoyed TFA. My wife loves Rogue One, primarily because she's not a big Star Wars fan, and the movie doesn't feel like a typical Star Wars film. And it was nice not to have the Skywalker family drama ruining the universe.
Basically, I view TFA as restoring faith in the franchise, and demonstrating they know how to make a Star Wars film. That trust had been betrayed by the prequels, which are even worse than their reputation. Frankly, they are awful films that shouldn't be watched by anybody, ever, for any reason.

TFA was indeed a lazy rehash, but Rogue One was particularly awful. worst group of characters ive ever seen. couldnt care less about any of them. forrest whitaker should be ashamed of his performance
Yeah, think I remember Jyn and K2's names (and the later only because of the mountain), but here's the argument that makes it inferior: would you be remotely confused in the movie if you started in the final act right when they leave Yavin? If you aren't, then its filler that can be removed. None of the characters matter nor does most the plot.

RotS is not THAT bad.

I really enjoyed TFA. It accomplished its job of not being the prequels, and that's all it had to do. Now they can really move forward.

TFA is fine. Rogue One is hot garbage.
I agree.

Explain why the characters don't matter, and because they all die isn't a valid reason.

That I didn't care or remember them is why they don't matter. The only scene worth a damn in that movie is the one in your avatar.

Because the vast majority of people who watch the movie, myself included, even those who are hardcore Star Wars fans not only don't care about the characters but they don't even remember their fricking names.
Contrast that with the prequel trilogy. Even the people that hate the prequel trilogy remember the names: Darth Maul, QuiGon, Dooku, Mace Windu, JarJar, Amadala, etc...
The only scene from Rogue One that's even worth talking about is Vader going apeshit in that hallway.
It wasn't a bad movie, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't important to the Star Wars Universe and non of the characters were even memorable.

Agree. I just watch the final scene and I'm good.

Funny enough while watching that I said to myself. "looks like the Maldives." Ended up being the Maldives.

I would argue it is BETTER than empire.
Flame away.
It is the tragedy of Darth Vader.

No, but the Ewok part is that bad. That completely ruins an otherwise decent movie.

TFA isn't awful. Rogue One was awful minus the Vader scene.
TFA is an entertaining movie just standing by itself. As a Star Wars fan though, I have a lot of issues with it. If the other movies didn't exist, it would be a pretty good story. They do however.
The next two in the trilogy can really help improve how it is received though.

normally I would have just let it slide, but your post confused the shite out of me for way to long... like, I think I might be clinically retarded how long the S kept me confused

TFA wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. Some of the writing and acting and story was cringey, but overall it was enjoyable.

TFA blows. I can’t believe this board likes it.

I thought it was just fine. Liked a lot of the characters.
