I started as a heel striker. I’m now a forefoot striker as nature intended. Contrary to what others have said, I didn’t find the transition too bad. It did take time. Heel striking is a product of modern footwear. You can’t heel strike running barefoot. Can’t do it. And yes, this opinion is unpopular and in the minority.

My friend that just ran a 2:45 marathon in NYC is a heel striker. "Born to Run" is a great book, but it's not the end all be all, yes modern shoes have made us more of heel strikers, but modern shoes are also the reason we will one day break the 2 hour marathon...
5 at pace miles (for the Marathon) yesterday afternoon
400m intervals this morning, 8 @ 5:45 pace

Today was the first attempted at running in the morning before work - been slowly bringing my wake-up time back in the morning, today was the first time I woke up early enough to get the run in :nana:

Tomorrow will do another 5 miles at pace. I love Marathon Pacing weeks, they are some of my favorites!
I haven't run since my Friday long run last week, I guess I'll go out and do some easy miles this afternoon but I'm pacing a Marathon on Sunday and the weather outlook is rain the ENTIRE TIME. I want to enjoy it Sunday, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. The schafing is gonna be BRUTAL on Monday :banghead:

you wouldn’t be shitting yourself doing this.

I have run a 100 miler, there had better be porta potties on the route or I'm going to end up with the brown thunder down under before I cross the finish line.
One thing I didn't mention - the Evo is not the most stable shoe, if it was a human it would definitely need therapy.

Like I said it's a great shoe, and kinda an all around shoe while also being the best at a lot of things. I prefer the Superblast on longer runs though because they have the pop of the Evo with extreme stability

How has your experience been so far with them?

Looking at getting a pair when I retire my Endorphin Speeds

a few of us have them on here - they are an amazing shoe, they make running fun. They make for a good interval shoe, a good easy day shoe, and a good long run shoe. They feel better after putting miles on them, they really are a great shoe.

I have one pair with 250 miles on them, and another with 80.
BAA has released the cutoff - 4:34

My friend that I paced will be perfectly fine. Now I'm curious what the cut-off times will be for 2027 with the downhill courses getting kneecapped

No throwing up this time around, so kept it solidly in zone 2

zone 2 stomach bug, Aubie would be proud

ETA: Did 15 on Saturday, 4 miles @9:00 and then 1 mile @8:00ish - did that 3 times.

Sunday did 5 miles progressive: started at 9:00 and ended at 6:45

Is that the Gardendale group? I haven’t heard much about it since it was originally mentioned.

Yes, they are still going strong. Was a smaller group this week, but still had 15 or so.
1 Mile Warm-up > 6 x 800s @6:35ish > 1 Mile Cool down at lunch
3.1 Miles @7:30 at the local run club

Legs sore, no wings, no beer, now need sleep

ETA: The race was in Huntsville

New training plan starts today? Thought you just ran marathon Sunday? How did it go?

Sunday went great! I made the decision last week to only sign up for the Half because I had 3 friends running the Full who were all trying to Qualify for Boston (the time I was going to go for wouldn't have done anything for me).

I paced one of them for half of her race (1:38 Half) and went back out and ran another 7 miles finding all 3 of them at different points and giving them nutrition / electrolytes and running alongside them at different points to cheer them on and push them to keep going.

So in all I ended up doing just over 20 miles on Saturday with 13.1 at a 7:29 pace, and still went out and did another 7 miles, it felt great and I feel good.

P.S: The girl I paced for the first half got a BQ with a 9 minute buffer!!! My other friend got a 6 minute buffer, and then my last friend didn't BQ (even though he ran the Marathon in a Blazing 3:02:28... the male divisions are ridiculous)

Needless to say, because all I did was 20 on Sunday, I plan to do a normal 45 - 50 mile week this week

Running weather is here, baws

Soooooo excited!! My first week of my training plan will officially kick off with some 800s today! :dude:

Yesterday's run.

Got hard mile 16-18 and my HR went up. Was sticking around 145-151 for most of the run. Last 2 were closer to 155-165.

Heart Rate drift is a real thing, it's mostly caused by dehydration, but it can also be caused by a few other things. If I start any run over 13 miles and my HR isn't staying below 150 for like the first 10 miles I know it's gonna be a slog.

Are you trying to BQ or just help pace for friend with BQ time of 3:20? Did your training block align with 3:20 or your BQ 3:05 ?

My training probably aligned more with 3:15 than 3:20. I have no desire to BQ, not for this race, possibly not for my race in December. Maybe one day, but that day is not today.

What marathon? Goal time?

Boston or Bust in Huntsville, AL.

I'm going to try and help my friend qualify for Boston - have a pacing plan for sub-3:20
I have never averaged over 150 miles a month during the Summer months, but I did it this year. As it has started to cool off I'm realizing those miles during the horrible temperatures should pay huge dividends in the Fall.

Onward and Upward

You doing that Gardendale group?

Not today - currently in taper for a marathon in a week and a half, so taking it easy and just enjoying the cooler weather.

Trying to keep my intensity up a bit more than I normally do for taper while also cutting back enough for really good recovery, this is a tough tightrope to walk.

fired up about 73 yesterday morning

Hey man we will take it!

76 today during my mid-day run and it was GLORIOUS! Can't wait for my first Race of the Fall season and a starting Temp in the 60s!
