Alabama Gives AD Greg Byrne Two-Year Extension, Raise

Alabama is keeping athletic director Greg Byrne in Tuscaloosa for a few more years.

The Crimson Tide have agreed to a two-year contract extension with Byrne that will pay him an average annual base salary of $2.67 million through June 30, 2033.

Byrne has served as Alabama's athletic director since 2017 and has overseen the department through several major changes.

One of his biggest moves came in 2019 when he hired Nate Oats as Alabama's basketball coach. Oats has since turned the Crimson Tide into one of the SEC's top basketball programs.

Byrne also led Alabama's search to replace Nick Saban following his retirement, eventually hiring Kalen DeBoer away from Washington.

The extension gives Alabama some additional stability at the top of its athletic department as college sports continues to change with NIL, revenue sharing and the transfer portal.
