1. I've now spent a total of 5 minutes addressing the topic, and I said I liked the movie.
2. I'm taking pride in my ignorance by not letting a random internet video influence my personal observations. Got it.

The Force Awakens does not "copy" A New Hope - it is a homage to the good vs. evil trope that is a staple in all Star Wars stories.

once again, The Force Awakens is actually a LONG way away from "copying" a New Hope, and you know how you can see a full breakdown of how this is the case? Watch the video in the OP.

Lastly - The Force Awakens is NOT a "copy" of a New Hope, if you use this argument - you are wrong, simply, you are wrong.

Nah.

If it's close enough where people think it could be a rip-off, then that's really all the matters.

Perception is reality. It was a rip-off.

it's better than return of the jedi which is also a complete rehash of the first movie.

Disney spent $4 billion, it was always going to be a soft reboot. did a great job introducing new and giving service to the old.

definitely went too far with the visual callbacks, definitely went too beat for beat with the first one. some of the stuff in the script is a little too hokey and dialogue a little eeeeh. but it got back to the core elements of why people love the originals which after so many years and the prequels, they kind of were forced into doing. you have to play it really safe

now it's time for new ideas, new stories, new dynamics...if they rehash empire, I won't be pleased

homage and rip off isn't' a clear line all the time especially when it's a continuation of a movie series that is as iconic and 40 years old.

they crossed the line a lot...trench run being the worst offender. even though I thought it was awesome.

you have to do a familiar story, but I agree too many elements were beat for beat, but they introduced enough cool stuff and set it up to go in new directions...force awakens is a movie that will be made better or worse by the sequel.

Good video. I really liked his Mary Sue analysis. Sure you can argue that Rey is a Mary Sue character. But if you're going to sit there and say that Luke was not a Mary Sue in ANH, then I think you're being overly critical of Rey's character, while way too forgiving (or willfully blind) towards Luke.

Oh and his comments about Kylo Ren being wounded. fricking thank you. Like, we see how strong the bowcaster is multiple times in the movie. And that's the weapon Kylo gets hit with. He's not going to be on his A game.

The more I watch it, the less I like it, but a lot of the little flaws that nag me about it could very well be solved by the next two movies in the trilogy. It’s hard to truly judge it fully since it’s not quite a finished product yet. Those little things may deliberately not make sense yet, but will soon.

I feel the opposite about Rogue One. That movie gets better every time I see it, and it was incredible on the first viewing. It’s flaws seem less and less important each time I watch it.

Something else everyone forgets to mention is that he just murdered his father.

Using the force is all about concentration and control. His mind would've been super fricked up after that and the bow caster shot and he still beats the shite out of both Finn and Rey.

They make a point the whole movie to show that he is immature and untrained and having an internal battle of good vs evil and then he stabs his own dad right through the heart. And although it's not talked about, I assume we'll get a flashback in a later movie, Kylo knew his dad. It's not like that was the first time they met.

I loved TFA, but even if I didn’t, I’d still think that General Hux’s speech was badass.

I watch that scene every so often and get chills each time.

those that don't like it are just mad it isn't the original trilogy.

This is actually the biggest problem for many critics. Nothing can ever compare with the originals in their minds.

The only reason people like Rogue One is because of the awesome Vader scene.

that scene sucked

but the best parts of Rogue One are just the interactions within the Star Wars universe outside of the Skywalker family

seeing the universe in new ways was awesome. now that doesn't hold up over time, but on the first viewing, especially for the first 2/3 of the movie, it was pretty sweet.

THAT is the interesting part of this universe reboot via Disney. the main story is too fractured by the prequels and the "soft reboot" of TFA to really deliver. however, there is an entire universe available away from this main storyline that can provide some legit movies. Rogue One gave me hope (hell, most of the reasons why Roge One ultimately failed were having to tie itself to the main storyline)

and they even create a new force-wielding orphan from fricking Tatooine as the main protagonist . hell, that orphan gets off Tatooine in the goddamn Millenium Falcon

to deny the copying is to deny reality

I totally agree. Rogue One was objectively good and answered questions SW fans have had for decades. The tremendous amount of respect for the fans is so apparent
