It's the #1 grossing movie (Domestic) of all time, and #3 worldwide.
Pretty safe bet most people liked the movie. It was just trendy to bitch about it.

I don’t really remember any of their names. The biggest flaw in Rogue One is the characters.

I had a conversation with my friend over the weekend about Rouge One and I basically came to the conclusion that Star Wars is in "categories" and is less about ranking.
God-Tier:
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Good / Great Tier:
The Return of the Jedi
Revenge of the Sith
Rouge One
Abysmal Tier:
Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
It's Own Tier, because we can't really rank it quite yet:
The Force Awakens
----------
The more I thought about it, the more I would put Rouge One above Revenge of the Sith.... it's hard to put a movie above the OT though - I still think The Force Awakens is a better movie than Return of the Jedi, but I also like JJ Abrams, Bad Robot, and their style.
I also think it's fairly universal that episodes 1 and 2 are absolute trash.

Just for an FYI:
TFA is #1
Rogue One is #7
Phantom Menace is #10
ANH is #11

I think this is it's strongest suit and why it works really well for me. Star Wars can disappear up it's own arse with it's canon and lore. They're afraid to branch away from anything that fans have embraced over the years. At some point, this character is going to have to run across C3PO in some form or fashion. It's easy for me to get bored with Star Wars because it always feels like the same thing over and over, hence why I fell off of TFA really quickly. Rogue One was a breath of fresh air with characters I knew nothing about and that really worked for me.
Granted, it has the problem that the prequels had of "let's fit our story into what's already been established", which with episodes 1,2, and 3 felt really forced, but they did it really well with Rogue. Like the age old question, why build a super weapon with such a destructive weak point

I have a hard time with New Hope now. It's a hard watch, lots of boring stretches and the characters are really raw. Han especially is kind of obnoxious, which I know is his deal, but they really refined him in Empire.

TFA is fine. Rogue One is hot garbage.
I see this posted all of the time and I want to hive mind agree with it but I cannot.
Rogue One is one of my fav Star Wars movies. Right behind New Hope and Empire.
Felicity Jones makes me care. The movie's appeal for me may be mostly due to her performance.

I'm praying TLJ is a fricking amazing movie that blows everyone's minds like Empire.
Because that's why people love star wars and that's why it has become the cultural phenomenon it is. Because of Empire.
ANH has plenty of flaws in acting and pacing and story, but it's all forgiven because that movie is the necessary set up and lead in to Empire. Same goes for Return.

I have always liked ANH more than Empire. Still do.

The only parts I don't care for in Empire are the Yoda sections, but I've maintained that Jedi stuff always bored me so that was a big reason. Plus, I mainly watched those when I was a lot younger. I think I would have more of an appreciation of those scenes now.
And I've always found Luke a whiny little twit.

how do you want me to react to this statement?

I've come to terms with this being an unpopular statement. I've just never cared for the Jedi. I'm a Han guy.

I want to say I'm surprised by this, but I'm not, I think I know you too well that this seem normal to me.
Off topic for 1 second: if the gd switch doesn't stop putting out games that take all my time, you are never getting Persona 5 (which I guess is good since I'll be stealing Horizon from you when I give you it )

It's also okay to hate all Star Wars since Jedi.

I liked it, but I’m not a Star Wars fanboy.

I dislike how they made it so similar to IV. On it's own, it's a fine film, but then I remember it used the same script as A new hope all the way from using a dessert world for early plot points to having something that looks exactly like a death star that can destroy worlds...hmm

quote:That's just it. I'm not mad about it. It just wasn't very good, and a total hack job in regard to content. Even South Park made fun of how hackneyed it is.
TFA was awesome and those that don't like it are just mad it isn't the original trilogy.
It's okay for TFA, Rouge One and thee others to suck. I'm not getting my childhood back and I'd like to see this generation's Star Wars, if they're up for it.

If you can remove nostalgia and forget everything you know about the OT, I don't see why anyone would say ANH is better than TFA.

It is basically the same movie

Originality for one. But you can’t really like one and not the other because on the surface they are really the same movie. ANH had the better antagonist, while TFA had a better protagonist.
