Game of Thrones S8E5 "The Bells" is officially the worst reviewed GOT episode yet

Currently sitting at 49% on Rotten Tomatoes with 68 reviews from critics in already, it has displaced the previous worst reviewed episode (season 5's "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken) which stands at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Even more telling has been the fan reaction to the episode. While there are a vocal minority of NPCs white knighting for the episode (especially on this very message board), the vast majority of fans have come away with a bitter taste in their mouths. On Rotten Tomatoes, the fan score for the season has dropped to 44%. It was at 52% prior to the airing of Sunday night's episode.
More evidence of the growing fan backlash lies in the like/dislike ratio of HBO's Inside the Episode on YouTube. With over 2.7 million views, the video has garnered a whopping 64,000 dislikes to 38,000 likes.
Now for those of you who are still white knighting this show, either out of pride or out of being legitimately entertained by this season, I say that you are entitled to do so. But that doesn't change the fact that season eight is objectively bad by Game of Thrones standards. The writing has effectively killed this show.

Don’t worry, it will only hold that crown for a week.

lol at all the neckbeards pissed that their theories didn’t play out. Blame D&D all you want but this is the fat mans story and he gave them the ending

How simple minded one must be to think that is the issue.

You really think this is the way he had it playing out?
D&D saw that people had used the clues from the books to get a good idea of how it would play out, then changed it so they “wouldn’t be predictable.”
Sure, the fat man deserves some criticism for not finishing his story in a timely manner, but after reading that HBO cleared them for 10 episode seasons, it’s cleat that D&D rushed, condensed, left out and altered integral parts of the storytelling in order to finish sooner.
They’ve turned this from a cerebral tale of human flaws and political intrigue into a Michael Bay film.

They're losing their shite because their feminist icon isn't the character they wanted her to be.

If it were a ten-episode final season the trolls would be drowning out any praise with screams of “Boring filler shite” without one frick being given to “character development.”
IMO it was great. Really didn’t see the mass carnage coming, but the development was there.

Wow. We’ve truly come full circle.

I don't know how ep 4 isn't the lowest rated episode, it was cold dog shite. But I actually enjoyed ep 5 given that I'm just to the point of watching the show to see how it ends.

Yes.

The writing has effectively killed this show.
The writing has sucked for a while, the compelling characters and big moments were still there. The issue now is the Mad Queen implementation, which is GRRM’s plan, and how poor it was. Which is writing in a sense, but it’s not a writing choice they made. I think it would still be controversial if they wrote it better, since it undermines her character development in so many ways.

You could always stop watching the show...

I thought episode 5 was the best episode this year.
I really did too. But even so it was still the episode where my disappointment with the season as a whole was cemented. I guess knowing there’s only one left and what’s already happened, it just seems like a dud.

8:00 on Sunday night they will be glued to the TV.

I do think pacing is what has sunk this show for a lot of people. Had the past 2 seasons been paced properly, who knows how all of this would have been received.
