Why the Outpouring of Affection for Ed?

Last December I posted about the possibility of O returning to LSU and received 163 downvotes. I cannot understand why there is such a turnaround in opinions.

The reaction was to you creating what was probably the 18th thread on the topic because you finally had the thought pop into your head, not whether he would come back in some capacity.

He was bombastic in his final two years as head coach, but it’s the “one of us” mentality. He’s being paid pennies on the dollar to help be an extra set of eyes on the field and with recruiting.
If Kiffin is fine with working with him for one year, then it should be fine with everyone else.

The man bleeds purple and gold and helped give us the greatest college football team of all time. Taking a 100k salary just to be a part of what Lane is building should just drive that home even more.

A lot of incorrect opinions in that thread, including line. Kudos. Although my opinion was assuming that you were referring to the D Line jobs.
It is always funny to go back to those threads and see how confident posters are in their incorrect opinions…

I'd imagine you got downvotes for entirely different reasons for people disliking coach O at that time. The presentation of that thread with the content in your post likely alongside timing had more to do with downvotes than people actually disliking coach O. I'd also imagine most didn't think it was realistic for obvious reasons same with Wade.

You're wrong. Read the responses.

The downvotes were due to your poor thread structure, up to, and including, the terrible title.
"what happened to O" as if it was anything more an internet innuendo connecting him to LSU 3 weeks after Kiffin was hired.
So you drew people into the thread with this title, likely curious as to what it meant. Then you write a few 3rd grade-quality sentences about how you thought it was a forgone conclusion he would be hired because he called him when he drove by Tiger Stadium.

All the myths are being resurrected including “oH hE lOoOoOvEs LsUuU!”
bullshite. He stayed here two days then transferred.
And if Southern Cal or Tennessee had offered him 125 grand instead of 100K he’d be there. But he had no choice.

always liked O. u musta not paid attention well to all the pro O posts. do not just look at your ONE THREAD.
O loves the university and did not waste years and years of natty type teams like miles did.

People are very adamant and having no idea what they're talking about at the same time. That's why. And who gives a damn about down votes on a message board

Some classics. Examples of why you don’t put too much into posters on here.

Remember your audience. A majority of the people here are just diehards who post purely on emotions at the moment. They’ll be the same ones boosting people they once shite on.

About that... His pay seems extremely low. I didn't think any of our assistant coaches made less than 350k. What's really going on here?

Because we’re a State full of “he’s one of us”

What if, and hear me out on this thought, he’s a good recruiter that can help the team? Did you ever consider that to be a possibility?
It’s ok to be wrong every once in a while.

I think people are ok with him coming back in this capacity
Lane has a lot of political capital at LSU for now
