It’s March madness. Shouldn’t we have a bracket with the top 8 or 16 SF with photos and some notes like they do those babe threads over on OT?

In terms of what they accomplished at LSU?

Rudy Macklin

In terms of creating a team to play (fictitious) games?

Ben Simmons

Of that group Macklin would be a bit redundant as Shaq and Petit were tremendous rebounders. Thus, Macklin wouldn't add a ton to the mix relative to what Simmons could bring. That backcourt would be almost fighting each other for shots and NEITHER was afraid to shoot from anywhere, anytime. Simmons doesn't HAVE to be a scorer and he sure as hell isn't a "shooter". He's a guy who would be content scoring 2-3 baskets a game while dishing out 10+ assists and grabbing 10+ rebounds.

On a team with two of the best scoring guards in the history of college basketball you need someone who is willing to facilitate. That would be Simmons

Based on talent AND production- its Ben Simmons and it isn’t even close. I don’t care if you didn’t like his attitude, the dude is one of the best big men to ever play the game here.

As a reminder, Pistol never won shite either. You can’t use that as a disqualifier.

I think Dupree was more of a small 4, if that makes sense. Dude had some hops though!

I’ve seen them all at LSU except Pettit but remember how great he was as an overall player - great mid-range scorer and rebounder. Based on him in the HoF I’ll have him at the 4.
I’m going with Simmons over John Williams although I think Williams is an all time great. He was brilliant, but Simmons had an overall better game eve though he is a quitter.

With all those egos in that line-up, I’m going to go with Bob Petit as the leader of the team and keep them in check including Shaq. One thing for certain is there would be little passing!

Rudy Macklin was the rock upon which the Fantastic Climb to the Top was built. He is one of only 2 players who scored over 2,000 points in LSU history and belongs on any all time team. Macklin transformed this program like no one else has done.

i would agree with that.

And in this fictitious world, having Ben Simmons run the point with CJ and Pistol running around waiting for the open 3, while Ben and Shaq run the pick and roll would be extremely difficult for any team to stop. We would literally just be shooting 3 and getting dunks, and we'd be extremely efficient at it.

1. Rudy Macklin

1a. Ricky Blanton. People forget how big a legend he was when he left LSU.

Sorry but in this dream scenario I would rather have a PG that can shoot. BS was really good down low but never wanted to play down low. You would think he would've developed a jump shot...has he made a 3 yet in the NBA?
