John Williams. Point forward/small forward. He is an all time top 5 player at LSU.

I’m prolly too young to go way back but I’d say Tasmin Mitchell based off the years I’ve seen.

It should probably be Rudy Macklin. But I'd go with Marcus Thornton (3 guards). Thornton had a short LSU career. But it was highly decorated and led the team pretty far..

Rudy Macklin as far as greatest Tiger and reputation but John Williams no doubt one of the single most talented players to come through LSU. Super stud.
Never forget the “man among boys” TV comments vs Georgetown.... along with “don’t shoot Jose”

I’m also a bit biased because I’m a touch young for Rudy Macklin and don’t recall watching him play, whereas Hot Plate was at the peak of my teen basketball watching years!

Rudy was great, but John had a much better all around game. He played defense and rebounded really well, but could take over a game on offense. He had a PG handle at 6’8” and PF build at 220-240 Lbs. He ran the floor like a deer and had the best mid range game of any LSU basketball player I have ever seen. Game could create his own 14-8ft shot and make a high percentage of them. Could use his body to power down on the box as well. Watch games from the 86 season and tourney run. He played in the NBA for 10 years. Would have played longer but he ballooned to over 300 lbs.

Was only here 5 minutes and didn't win squat, but if we're basing on talent...

I was around for Rudy and Big John. You are 100% right. Rudy was great, but Williams should start on the all-time team. I've been down voted before when I have posted this. Most likely by youngsters who don't know any better.

Idk if it's age or what on this board but Williams was one of the best players I have ever seen at LSU and he rarely ever gets mentioned.

And by the way, the only 2 schools THAT WOULD HAVE A PRAYER against our all-time team would be UNC & UCLA.

I agree tigah. A UNC/UCLA all time team would be tough to beat. Would love to see a young athletic Shaq d up against Walton or Kareem. Would have been fun to watch.

The rules would make the match up. For example —shot clock or no shot clock? Dean and Wooden mastered the art of patient offensive play and waiting for a good shot. They also mastered the four corners to milk a lead. Playing with a shot clock changes that entire dynamic.

All time UNC matchup I may have to start or play Jerry Reynolds/Ollie Brown for the sole purpose of guarding Jordan. Jerry had a decent game against him, but Jerry was the lone scorer on that team. He had the athleticism to keep up with MJ , but had to sacrifice D to score. On an all time team he wouldn’t have the offensive pressure.

UNC—Kenny Smith, MJ, Stackhouse, JR Reid, Brad D at center ? Trying to think of their best PF/C combo. Worthy at PF over Reid? Would be a hell of a starting five for them. UNC’s bench is deeper all time.

It would be cool to see a top 5 or 10 of each position.

I agree, just throw Ben Simmons into that group. I’d put that five up against anybody. Brandon Bass, Garrett Temple, Tremont Waters, Tasmin Mitchell and Tyrus Thomas off the bench.

Forgive me, didn’t watch a whole lot of LSU basketball before 2000.
