The NCAA and conference commissioners think they fond the perfect plan to defeat litigation in the Sorsby case. However, they are either too dumb or (more likely) intentionally disingenuous in thinking these two situations are alike. Sorsby involved a player who admitted to gambling on games involving his own team. Never before, in any sport, was a player allowed to continue playing after that findings (at least in recent memory).

Here, we have players seeking to have a court enjoin the NCAA from enforcing its eligibility rules...an action similar to the dozens (maybe more) that have been raised all across the country for the last 5 years. Hell, there are players on other college teams who were undrafted and participated in organized activities with NFL teams....THIS YEAR! Yet somehow this is bridge too far?

It's not. The ONLY reason you are seeing this is because the NCAA and conferences think they have finally found the way to stop all of the L's they constantly take in court. They haven't. But what they are unwittingly doing is furthering the plaintiffs' cases in the antitrust lawsuits that will eventually come down the line against the NCAA and conferences. Hell, they may be expediting them! And they will lose because despite the NCAA and conference commissioners pretending football and basketball are just "amateur sports", they are actually billion dollar businesses in a marketplace totally controlled by the NCAA and 4 conferences (arguably just two). It doesn't take a big leap of logic to start thinking about the "M" word from there (M)onopoly.

One would like to think the SEC has intelligent people with foresight advising the conference that hasty, retroactive rule passing targeting a very specific group of players and the coordinated saber rattling may not be the best idea with the fights that are going to come down the line. But apparently that is not the case.

I could be wrong. I'm hope I'm wrong. But you could be witnessing in real time the next big step in the eventual demise of the NCAA and even the SEC, Big 10, etc as we know them. And it won't be because of Kiffin or LSU. NEITHER is a party to this litigation even it if stand to benefit from a favorable ruling. It will be because organizations that have been woefully reactive instead of proactive for most of their existence unwittingly sowed the seeds of their own demise.

People are making total asses of themselves.

I haven't seen his statement but I know people who recruited for SEC programs immediately prior to NIL coming into play.

No one paid high school athletes more than UGA. They were brazen about it.

I guess he missed the court ruling in Missouri today. How are these people in positions of power so out of their depth and incapable of connecting the dots.
