He didnt have a rough year 2, that was the other JUCO guy we dropped a bit more back. Osbolt had 102 strikeouts in 73 innings.
Nothing really stands out in a huge way about Osbolt, he could eat innings here, maybe give you quality here and there but would probably never factor in a super major way among the arms we have. Doesnt mean he cant give good innings, just means its probably less here than most other places. He's got the stuff to strike people out but didnt dominate JUCO or anything (4.82 ERA last season).

Why wouldn't you want a bunch of guys upset with not getting their draft offer and then pouting all the time while soaking up the biggest NIL deals on the team? What happened last year with Yorke and Carraway that would make you not want that?

I don't know if Logan winds up at LSU, but there is NOBODY I want more than JJ negotiating or convincing Logan to do so.

The kid is not interested in the school environment, high school or college. He was home schooled so he could focus on baseball. He has his personal coaches in California that he trusts. He's a first round talent and wants 1st round money, if not this year then next year

The school part may be right, but the market clearly told him this year that currently he’s not a 1st round talent, otherwise someone would have selected and paid him as such.

The real question is if he doesnt take the $1.7 mil and comes to LSU then he will be stuck in College for 3 years instead of just 1! Do you understand how this works yet?

JUCOs offer the closest development environment to the minor leagues. Lot of games in both the fall and spring, low stakes for a lot of mound time even if the results aren't there, and less off field requirements than D1.
He has a fastball that needs to be completely reworked and wouldn't get the type of developmental innings at LSU that he would at a JUCO.
If that’s where he is and where his mind is, he should have taken the offer.

If this is true then he played himself. If he was all in on only pro ball then you gotta sign for what is offered. Now he’s gonna do something he doesn’t want to do just to prove a point to…..who?

Schmidt would be 21 years old after 3 years at LSU as opposed to 19 after a juco year. That makes a difference to MLB teams.

This used to matter a lot more than it does today. The time between the minor leagues and major league baseball is about the same as if they went through the minor leagues. If you’re playing at LSU, then your development is better than the minor leagues in terms of facilities, training, nutrition, etc.
For example, Anderson, Eyanson, Skenes, etc etc are guys that played high leverage baseball in a high leverage league.
Teams are also gonna want someone that’s not coddled. That may be why he had issues with interviews. He may just be immature. He can gain maturity in college.

There is likely to be a lockout next year. Who knows how long it lasts. Who knows what the draft will look like after.
MLB has stated they want the JUCO exemption to end. Who knows if the union agrees to that.
But the 27 draft might be very different than the 26 draft.

Almost every talking LSU podcast head has said that if this kid lands at LSU, then he’s almost assuredly going to be somewhere in the starting rotation in year 1. He’s that good.
