Bingo, even if he does poorly in juco…if his “numbers” still look good he’ll be drafted just as high

It’s awesome to get drafted and all. But you could go to one of the best colleges in the country and be in the hunt for a championship every year. I would take that all day long instead of wasting my talent in JUCO.

It’s an option and it’s worked a few times.
IF he performs well at JUCO he might get drafted higher or command a higher signing bonus. He risks that he doesn’t do well OR does OK but doesn’t get a better offer, which is the more common end result.
He will likely get more innings at a JUCO versus at LSU as a freshman.
Interesting conundrum, hope he’s wearing P&G next season!

JUCO plays against him more than it helps. Often time it's not the way to go. It's very rare it works out. He'll definitely get paid at LSU to play. If he's intent on not going to college, it makes no sense to pass the offer up on the table now. If he thinks he's way better than that and open to money, LSU is really the only play that makes sense. JUCO really does not make sense when you look at it historically. He will at least get paid at LSU and if he's confident in his ability, could get even way more money than he did out of HS. We just lost a pitcher to NC. Something feels off about this like timing is everything and Schmidt is seriously looking at LSU. It honestly is what makes sense if he doesn't take the MLB offer.
If he doesn't take MLB offer and he goes JUCO, someone is giving him really bad advice. He should just take the money on the table at that point.

You are not seeing it from their perspective, just an LSU fan
His perspective is I wanna get paid and paid more than Cleveland just offered me ($1.5M-$1.7M) as quickly as possible. At JUCO you are draft eligible after just 1 season, and again after a 2nd. He is not turning 21 before the end of the sophmore year so he has to wait 3 years if he goes to any D1 school.
He also is getting guaranteed innings and playing time at any juco, he gets zero guarantees coming here because we care first and foremost about winning games. He could come here, have some control problems early on, and throw 12 innings his freshman year. He could go to a JUCO, work through those control problems on the field and maybe even work his way out of it in the different aspect than he would get here and get a bonus he wants to sign for after just 1 or 2 seasons.
If his primary objective is to become eligible as quickly as possible and try and maximize his value, going the JUCO route makes way more sense.

He has a lot to work on to be viable and can work on it in a low pressure environment in JUCO rather than in the win-now, high pressure SEC.
JUCOs offer the closest development environment to the minor leagues. Lot of games in both the fall and spring, low stakes for a lot of mound time even if the results aren't there, and less off field requirements than D1.
He has a fastball that needs to be completely reworked and wouldn't get the type of developmental innings at LSU that he would at a JUCO.

He should just take the money on the table and get developed in MLB then. Unlikely he blows up in 1 year at JUCO and then get drafted high. He might actually lose money like that.

I agree. But he also probably shouldn't have switched agents right before the draft after his previous one had been the one talking to all the teams.
He's got a lot of people around him that seem very intent on making the wrong decisions for him.
For guys that have MLB potential but need a lot of work, if someone is going to give you over a million out of high school, it's probably not a bad move to take it. Because the lower stakes development time is going to work in your favor.
It's similar to guys who can't throw strikes. Miguel Sime was in the Futures Game this year, he throws like 104 but can't find the zone. He'd never see the mound at LSU because we have to win now.

These type of threads always fascinate me. You have two main groups.
1. Extreme optimist - who will refuse to take the pros of any other options as viable outside of coming to LSU. LSU is the smartest move, no other option should even be considered.
2. Extreme pessimist - wanting to brace themselves for the failure of him not coming preemptively, they sling insults and wild claims to make it seem like LSU doesn't really want the kid anyway.

OT a bit but why did we lose Osbolt? We're not over the roster limit I thought? Unless I missed something and him leaving was expected.

Yeah, he's the real deal. If he lands here, our pitching potential is through the roof (we know offense is already).
I think that landing a weekend rotation spot will be tough for anyone incoming. With that said, Evans, Schmidt, and Moore will have a lot of pressure on their tails between Logan (if he comes here), Landon, Rickin, Sides, and Stringer.
I imagine they'll be on shorter leashes now and, if someone is out for a while due to injury, it could be harder for them to make it back in than usual.

At one point Jay said we'd have 41 on the roster, then later said 39. It's possible that the financial commitment needed to fit the guys that decided to make it to campus meant that we couldn't carry 41 anymore.
Or we didn't have enough DSAs to make up the 7 roster spots.
Either way, his spot and the catcher's spot disappeared some time after the draft.
We don't know the exact reason, but those are two reasonable explanations.

Its possible but if thats true LSU should 100% call his bluff and stick to whatever number was agreed upon when he signed. If he sticks to his word, and does not sign with cleveland he has 2 options
1. Go play for free at a juco for a year and hope to be picked around the same spot next year. I don't think a year in juco is going to elevate him into a 1st round pick but he shouldn't fall very far either.
2. Play at LSU for whatever NIL / revenue sharing was offered and hope to be developed into a 1st round pick
The best option is just to take the money now and go develop in low A ball while being a millionaire, The juco option does not make much sense to me just from a money perspective.

I don’t want him if he passes on the MLB and doesn’t immediately want to get better here. His heart isn’t in it. He needs to go Juco.

It’s all about the measurable. If his fastball ticks up, he grows an inch, adds some spin, etc. it won’t matter where he’s playing.
I feel bad for the kid to not receive a slot offer to consider.
Now he’s left with a difficult decision.

UNC is a good program. Walters State is in Tennessee and Chapel Hill is probably a little closer for him.
I think he had a rough year 2 and probably was told that PT might be hard to come by in a room full of some high level RHP
