Why Do You Manicure Your Lawn?

My wife (no pics) fusses at me cause I spend a lot of time taking care of the yard. (Weeding, feeding, watering, cutting) and she doesn’t understand why. It’s just a sense of pride for me to take care of something and to get my mind off life. What about you?

Yes. It is what I do for a living and I like to show up my cul-de-sac.

I love doing my yard and my backyard is my tropical oasis. Nothing like sitting in my backyard on my swing looking at banana trees and tropical plants in full bloom. Did i mention the smell of jazzmine and the sight of the white flowers all along my back fence. A thick lawn with my pups laying in it while i drink a beer taking it all in. I could keep going. It's in my Dna having a beautiful yard.

I don't want the house to look trashy.

This. It's a good feeling after sweating your arse off edging then mowing and seeing how good the grass and edging look.

It’s a matter of pride. I live in a nice neighborhood and I like having a nice looking lawn (better than the neighbors that use a landscaping service).
I have property/farm and it was neglected for several years before I bought it. I really enjoy working on the land getting it back in shape. I’ve been working on it for 3yrs now. Still have a lot to do but it sure looks a whole lot better now than it did when we got it.
I love my tractor.

Because it makes you feel like a man! I feel sorry for my neighbors who just pay people to do their lawn and mine still looks better. I always hope their wives make them feel like a little bitch… I have one neighbor who I think would pay someone to wipe their own arse rather than do it themselves.

Can’t explain it.
I like everything about it.
Love grass, trees, flowers, wildlife, etc.
Grew up playing a ton of golf so I’ve always been Bermuda obsessed.
I’m enjoying the challenge of wrangling in our backyard. It’s been four years now and this lawn season is off to the best start yet. Should make great strides.
Also, I really enjoy researching and applying the products.
Last, but perhaps my biggest motivation: a clean lawn for really young kids.

I am competitive and want the best yard around my neighborhood
When I drive and see the weeds everywhere that people have it’s a sense of pride I don’t have it
I don’t want my house to look like shite and that I don’t care. I spent a lot of money on my home and i want it to look nice
I want to fix the areas that went to shite bc the builder put crap sod down and over seeded with contract mix
Lastly I dropped like 5 grand on sod for the rest of my lawn, why the frick wouldn’t I take of it. That would be just pissing money away.

I've always enjoyed doing the yard since I was a kid. Usually there is a gratification that stems from it. It makes everything look nice and kept.
Can't explain it - don't need to. Why does anyone like things?

1. My house is expensive, so I want to take care of it, and that includes the yard
2. It looks nice and inviting to others
3. I enjoy it
4. My neighbor is a pro landscaper and his yard is impeccable, so i like to keep mine to his standard
5. A clean edge on a sidewalk with thick grass is awesome

In my experience wives will complain about anything. If they have nothing to complain about, they will find something.
Sounds like yours found a something.

I like taking pride of ownership, it doesn't take much to keep it looking decent, I maybe spend an extra hour or two a month versus my neighbors and our place looks exponentially better than everyone else around us. It's a subtle flex.
During the drought my wife rolled her eyes that I was insistent on watering the lawn, where my neighbors just let theirs die and the weeds to take over. Now everyone on our street has a lawn made up of weeds and clovers and ours looks fantastic. Who's rolling their eyes now?

Same, I was actually going home for lunch just so I could water my lawn for 45 minutes during the day

You can definitely tell who bothers with a pre emergent.

If you dont take care of it for a couple hours a week you end up with an overgrown neglected mess after just a little bit. Then you have major shite to do that is hard and if hired out it is expensive. Weedeating, edging, mowing blowing and getting rid of weeds with a little spot spraying or pulling is a whole lot easier than rebuilding beds, or having crap growing everywhere. Plus from a resale standpoint if your home is always neat and well kept it will sell faster and for more because people will admire it.
