I can tell you that admitting you don't want to have to carry 60 lb dumbbells for 20 feet isn't going to help stop this jacked dude from making fun of you.

I sort of thought you both had a point until you said you'd have to move 60's 20 feet. If you were doing 150's and had to take them 50 feet, you can probably use the rack. In that scenario, people probably aren't messing with you, though.

back up three of four feet I'll be in the way of someone doing a bench exercise.
so backing up five to six feet is too much to ask?

In all seriousness, he would probably get better results from doing exactly this (farmers walks) with the 60 pound dumbbells

Hell yes. I have farmers walk handles and they do more for my traps than shrugs by a long shot.

Hell yeah. I never got much out of shrugs. I get mine up by doing deadlifts, carries, and holds.

I want you to understand something. You don't suck because these people say you suck, you suck because Stone Cold said so and that's the bottom line!

Yeah, I do hardly any direct trap work and I've seen more trap growth from farmers walks and sandbag cleans/carries than I got from years of shrugs.

This is the best video about building traps ever, IMO:

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Looks like I was in the wrong and I intend to modify my behavior in the future to be more considerate and change my exercises on my shoulders to the more efficient ones y'all have outlined.

That's because most people have gym etiquette. But know that move is extremely fricking annoying to all that lift in that area. You are costing other people time to wait on your arse to move out of the way.

I have always done my shoulder shrugs by picking up the two weights and doing one set of shrugs right in front of the larger row of weights people can pick up, then placing them back on the row of weights after my set is done.
Can someone draw this for me in MS paint?

Wasn't this a topic yesterday? I seem to think more people said it wasn't a dick move at the gas station but I guess not at the gym. Personally, I see dudes pick up db's all the time and just camp out in front of the rack to do their set. Half the time they are the same fricktards that don't even re-rack them either but just leave them on the floor. It is annoying as hell trying to get around them.

Standing immediately in front of the DB rack, no matter the weight or exercise, is bad gym etiquette.
