Who was in the wrong here at the gym?

I have always done my shoulder shrugs by picking up the two weights and doing one set of shrugs right in front of the larger row of weights people can pick up, then placing them back on the row of weights after my set is done. I do one set then go do another exercise elsewhere then come back to do another set. Yesterday, this roided out guy comes behind me when I'm doing the set of shoulder shrugs and says "bad place to park bro." I wanted to tell him to go **** himself but didn't want to make a mountain out of a molehill. Is my practice violating gym etiquette? Been doing it this way for over a decade and never had anyone complain till now.

Yes.
Move out of the way.

You were in the wrong. You should probably stop working out all together.

You didn’t tell him anything because it sounds like he would have beat your arse

My solution to this is to just never go to the gym.

Standing right in front of the row makes it harder for people to grab the weights they need. Just pick them up and back up like five plus feet.
I don't think he was being an arse. Sounds like he was giving you a pro tip.

I mean, if you're right in front of the rack, making it hard for someone else to grab the weights, you're probably somewhat in the wrong. Is there not room to take a couple steps back so others could pick up the weights?
I'm sure the guy was a tool, but if you're blocking someone from getting the weights, you could probably take a couple steps back and have no change in your routine.

No, I'm guessing you should there 30-45 seconds. I don't think it killed Chad to have to wait 30 seconds for you to rerack the weights and move.

I do it the way you do it but I am at the gym early and there are not many people in there.

No you didn’t, you just knew he’d kick the shite out of you.

Anybody who practices "gym etiquette" needs a knuckle check

Well, it was a bad place to park, BRO.

So what is the alternative? Take my weights somewhere else? That's going to take just as much if not more time, getting in other people's way, to move those weights back and forth. It seems like this is the most logical place in the gym to do this exercise.

This kind of thing irrationally annoys me. Can you not just do one exercise at a time rather than doing single sets all over the gym 3 times over?

You’re fine. I do the same thing and no one has ever said anything to me, plus I’ve seen countless people do it.

Which is correct. Now just do the same thing 4-5 feet back so people can get their weights too.

Go outside to the parking lot and hammer throw the weights at his Camaro.

You should've told him, "do you know what the frick my dad does..."

You work out at the rack everyone is trying to get weights off of and somehow don't know if you're being stupid or not?
