The dish matters but don’t sleep on fries.
Some garlic mashed potatoes (no gravy) are also a tasty option sometimes.

It's hard to beat a good baked potato, and I prefer mine with butter, sour cream with fresh green onions, sweet basil and parsley finely minced and mixed in it, some crispy fried bacon bits and salt and pepper to finish it off.
My wife likes to add some shredded cheese with the above.

I hated potatoes as a kid. To the point where my parents couldn't even shut me up with McDonalds fries, and when they tried to give me my first hash brown, I was like 4 years old calling out that it tasted like fries. As I got older, I became more tolerant of potatoes, but still prefer them in a way that masks the starchy texture/flavor. Twice baked vs. plain baked. Seasoned fries with ketchup vs. plain potato-y fries. Even in "mashed", I like a soft-skinned mash with roasted garlic, butter, cheese, sour cream, etc. far more than a finely mashed russet type.
So you still eat like a 4 year old. Not sure why you would want admit that to the free world...

Ah yes. Chunky skin-on loaded potatoes with roasted garlic. The food of 4 year olds..

There's not much I won't eat ever since I've been like 18. Apples and Root Beer are all I can think of. I said "prefer". Not "refuse to eat".
Dick.

Neither - twice baked/stuffed for me.
That's what I prefer over the two choices which is funny because twice baked are dressed up mashed potatoes to me. I like mashed potatoes okay, but we didn't ever have them growing up.
Recently, my Mom had a stroke and for a while, she was limited to soft easy to swallow and chew foods. I bought the Bob Evans mashed potatoes to keep on hand. I was shocked at how good they are. I also added some green onions and cheese to them, a little more sour cream and pepper. Then, I baked them. They were essentially a twice baked potato without the skin. Quite good for a quick twice baked potato casserole.

If I had to pick a last meal it would be a hamburger steak smothered in onions and mushrooms with mashed potatoes, corn and a good gravy, and a nice soft roll to clean the plate with.

If I'm having gravy, I prefer to have rice.
All day. Every day.
We only eat mashed potatoes with meats that don't usually make their own gravy.. like fried chicken, chicken fried steak, etc.

Depends on main dish. Steak - baked potato. Meat cooked in gravy - mashed.
I like them both.

I don't like mashed potatoes with gravy unless that gravy is really the demiglace from my short rib/lamb shank or other braised meat. Otherwise I prefer my mashed potatoes plain with spices or cheese.

I enjoy both but would rank mashed with no gravy slightly higher than baked.
