You thought you could get REAL auto insurance for a teenager for $150/month? I'm surprised you could figure out how to find this website.

I’m not going to pile on. Good luck. Kids today just can’t drive. I don’t know if it’s the constant distractions or what. My 22 year old son has already totaled three vehicles, my 27 year old son has totaled two.

A $25k car

The value of a vehicle is only a small portion of the total cost of insurance. When you're dealing with insuring a teenager, it's almost meaningless. The majority of the cost of insurance is for LIABILITY - not the value of a vehicle - and when you're insuring a teenager, the cost of that liability is going to be very high.

What on earth made you think the cost to insure your 16 year old daughter was going to be only $175 a month?

Should have bought her a clean car under 10k. You can get some legit steals that only need minor repairs.

My cousin bought a 2014 CX6 or whatever o line for like 3500. Dropped 1k into it. Car is worth like 10k right now

I have 3 kids and even with older cars (Malibu,Corolla, and a Lancer) we were paying $1k a month with my husband and I also (camry and silverado) with States Farm 10 years ago. I even had my ex price it through USAA and it would have only saved me a little bit more.

My daughter just turned 16. Got her a Toyota Rav4 in the most basic configuration. A $25k car. Was planning on getting used, but the used car market is bonkers

You are bonkers. Get her a used Altima or Accord with 80k miles so she can get some experience.
Have fun with paying your deductible very soon. A 16 year old has no business in a brand new car.

We have state farm. My daughter's isn't that bad but what we learned was that if you have a car that you have paid insurance on for a while it will be cheaper than a new car.
I think her insurance is around $150/month but she has extremely good grades and also she completed the state farm safety thing that was an app on her phone.

My wife had a 2010 MDX that we had never had a claim on that my daughter got.
We bought my wife a new Q7.

My son will be getting my 2012 Sequoia in a little over a year.

Try USAA. If you can. I'm paying 657 monthly on 4 vehicles.

Not everyone can be with USAA. I'm with them because of my wife's dad being a Vietnam veteran but I only have my house with them. My autos are with Geico because USAA is high as giraffe pussy on autos. We're paying $190/month for two autos, 100/300/100, 50/100 UM, 5,000 medpay, rental, roadside service, and $500 collision/$100 comprehensive.

Geico is the cheapest for autos for us. Nobody has beaten them since we've been with them since 2017.

I pay just under $700 a month for 4 cars. My boys are now (almost) 19 and 22. We bought a used Corolla for the oldest when he turned 16. After his freshman year of college, we bought him a new Jetta and passed the Corolla down to the young one. The Corolla served us well, but in addition to one at fault and one not at fault accident, there were definitely dings and such from driving and parking in mid city for HS. Just sold the Corolla and bought second son a new Tacoma. By the way, they earned their vehicles by earning National Merit academic scholarships to Alabama.

I have a friend that pays 9k every 6 months for 5 drivers, 4 cars. They’ve had about 5 accidents. Kids are 17, 20 and 22

State farm grade reduction is helpful. If the child has good grades (high school or college,I think even community or junior college) send them a copy of the grades for the discount.

Well you aren't just getting her insurance on one car. She has to be covered for everything on your policy. And FWIW, just be glad you don't have a boy. Mine was double that for my all A's son who took driving school.

I was in shock myself.

Go to the online insurance websites and try entering you as the primary driver for the Toyota and your daughter as primary for the truck.

Doesn't work that way. The insurance company will charge him as if she is the primary for the most valuable car on the policy because she is covered for all vehicles in the household now. The only way he can bypass that is to prove she doesn't live in the household. That being said Geico is solid insurance and that's really a decent price for a 16 year old.

teens should only get cars you can afford to have liability only with. Plenty of nice used cars that are safe.

Higher for boys because insurance companies deem them a higher risk.

Can we tell the insurance company that our son identifies as a female so he can get lower insurance rates?

In Louisiana if she lives in the household she is covered for all vehicles. They will charge rates as if she drives the most valuable.
