My daughter just turned 16. Got her a Toyota Rav4 in the most basic configuration. A $25k car. Was planning on getting used, but the used car market is bonkers. Made more sense to get her a new one. Plus, I found a 2020 that was $3500 less than the 2021s on the lot.

Anyhow, I scanned her license and the Vin code into my Geico app (Pretty cool technology) and they sent me a quote to add her onto my policy.

$350 a month. WTF? Obviously I am going to shop this around. But it was more than double what I thought it would be. The insurance on my truck is $65 a month FFS.

Anyhow, I just had to vent. And: subtle can afford a car brag.

Also, I hope all trial lawyers on the planet get Ebola and shite themselves to death. I cannot get over the fact that most of this money is going to pay for those shite bags

This should answer your question...

I had to pay 233 a month with a Toyota Supra 38 years ago..

Deal was, If my parents bought me a car, I had to get a job and pay the insurance....Made me a more responsible person.

I hope the car is in her name, for your sake.

Teenagers are high risk. It’s worse if you’re in Louisiana.

Given she's going to total it in the next 4 months... 350 is a good deal.

Dude there's a million used Rav4s.

You could have saved 5k (a years worth of insurance) and got her one with more safety features and AWD.

I just bought a 2017 XLE with 25k miles for 20k.

Should have got her 15 year old beater with liability. Doubt you'll find insurance any cheaper.

I paid close to that for a 16 year old boy with all the good grade, drivers ed discounts and for a 2008 F-150. You might get it a little cheaper by shopping it but I suspect it won't be significantly less.

Are you stupid?

You don’t let a 16 year old drive a new car. First, it’s idiotic to begin with. But the insurance is unbelievable

Took my daughter 6 weeks to total hers. She bought the car and paid her own insurance. Policy in her own name.

I just found a 2010 Corolla with 57,000 miles for $9,000. That is the car for a 16 year old.

Sorry OP, don't mean to pile on you. Hopefully one day, I can make an OT baller salary and do something like what you did.
