Tik Tok: Serious Question

The government is trying to ban it because it “collects data on users.” So does every other app or website. What makes Tik Tok so dangerous?

it collects data on users, and then sends that data directly to the CCP
Here in America, we don't do that! We collect data on users, and then SELL it to the CCP!

It’s not bad when Americans in Silicon Valley collect the same data. Only when China does

This begs the question. What other apps are Chinese owned that do the same thing. Tik Tok is just the hot new app so it’s getting a lot of attention. I’d have to think the Chinese have developed more popular apps in the US than just TT and We Chat

It's because of China.
Facebook Apple microsoft and Google aren't owned by china

The government just wants an American company to buy it so they can buy the data instead of China getting it
nobody actually cares about collecting data, that is just political fodder

China.
I wish there was a way to cut them off from anything involving tech. They're dug into us like ticks.
I'd be willing to pay more for tech items not coming from China...We've invited them behind closed doors.

The Chinese government.

Apparently China is collecting data on US citizens. Which I have no doubt they’ve been doing for a long time. The same way that guy who made that aging app sold the data to the Russians, supposedly. This is the digital age. If agencies want intel on you, they can get it.

What about my freedom? I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself from Chi-com snooping. I don't need the government doing it for me.

If a company is a certain percent owned by China, they are considered by the CCP as a Chinese busiest and have to do whatever they say. This is why Trump is making them sell a portion to a US company

Shares data with Communist rulers of China. Owner has partnered with communist govt to hire a bunch of Party members at corporate offices in Beijing and share info after being threatened with a shut down by Communists.
Also has been known to remove/censure pro Hong Kong posts and anti Chinese govt postings.

Yeah I don't get it either. You are kidding yourself if facebook, twitter and the rest aren't handing your data over to China

It’s a known fact the CCP had the right to demand TikTok to share any data with them at any time they requested. Said data includes things that are very private and personal like passwords, text message conversations and even something benign as your recent clipboards. Basically they could use tiktok to spy on everyone and collect info that could be used to influence or harm, but they denied it the entire time even after it was investigated and proven true.

This is election year propaganda at the finest.
Look, every app you put on your phone collects data and sells it to nefarious groups. If this one app is shut down, whatever, the Chi-coms will get your information another way.
The fact that this is some unheard of national security risk is absurd. Be careful (and tell your kids to be careful) with what you post online and what you save on your phone.
