How many false alarm messages does 911 get before they don’t even take it seriously?
How many false alarm fines do people get before they stop putting groceries in the seat?
At our office, if our alarm is set off by us and the cops come we get like $125 fine.

An exhausted parent forgetting a Sleeping kid is in the car with them isn’t exactly a moral failing. The kind of people who want this device just want an added layer of protection for the one in a million shot.

Yes, but parents tend to not buy things that, in their eyes, represents an admission that they might make a parenting mistake.

Agree to disagree. Many of the things they buy are to prevent injury or death to their child. From the things that hold cabinets closed, to the things that go in electrical outlets, to the stuff they put on corners of furniture, to the baby bath tubs, baby monitors, etc etc. All shite my parents didn't have, but which are essentially considered mandatory nowadays for overworked and tired parents.

Those things are all designed to prevent injury or death as a result of accidents. There is no expectation by society that parents will have eyes on their children 24 hours a day. There is an expectation by society that parents will not forget their kids in their car.
That, IMO, is the difference between this device and an outlet cover. An outlet cover prevents accidents. This device prevents a kid dying from the parents negligence.

We had a group do that in my senior design class in EE at MSU. Didnt alert cops but could send a text to up to 3 phone numbers. It was pretty cool.

I used to work in consumer products and learned about how the consumer product safety commission works. there aren’t enough deaths and hospitalizations to reach the levels required for CPSC guidelines for car seats. I suspect that with the increased technology In automobiles that the vehicles themselves will no longer allow the temperatures to reach above 100 degrees. They will ventilate automatically for safety and longevity of the vehicles interior materials. That’s still probably a decade or two away though

What kind of absent-minded, irresponsible parent would spend $40 on a device that they shouldn’t need in the first place.
And if they are that stupid and forgetful, why would they purchase a device that could only get them in trouble?
The only way this works is by passing a referendum mandating parents to purchase and use appropriately.
