My wife and I signed up for a financial wellness class through our church. Turns out its a Ramsey class. Did I unknowingly join a cult? I feel like we could benefit from it by saving more of our play/misc money (really Im hoping my wife sees this as I am a cheapass) We only have a mortg...

re: anyone try to watch college football this weekend? - MSUmtowndawg
I watched when I could with 3 and 5 yr olds. But I enjoy watching any football. Truthfully I will miss the PAC12 games out west. Everyone is usually asleep when they kick off so its the only game I get to watch uninterrupted except for State games ...

I was just graduated and with an EPA for sandy. The guys I went to PC with compared it to the 93(94?) ice storm. Tyndall AFB Pine's and Mexico beach were an incredible site to see. ...

re: Sally - Moving towards Georgia - Potential for Significant Flooding - MSUmtowndawg
I just got back from LC and Laura, missed my sons first day of kindergarten. I spent 13 days in orange for Harvey and 22 days in Panama City for Michael. I only say that to say I'm not a blowhard. When I say I don't mean to intrude I mean it. I follow these threads for information because it hel...

re: Sally - Moving towards Georgia - Potential for Significant Flooding - MSUmtowndawg
Not at all. Just overly sensitive to the La narrative that Katrina only affected La. it gets old during these TD hurricane threads. Again, I understand where I am posting and do not wish to derail the info. ...

re: Sally - Moving towards Georgia - Potential for Significant Flooding - MSUmtowndawg
... it really doesn't need to shift west to a high population city like New Orleans
My sister lives in Nola so I don't say this lightly, but damn son. Nola got every dollar they could to fix that bowl of a city during/after Katrina. The MS coast took care of itself. I don't mean t...

re: Mexican journalist who wrote about crime found beheaded - MSUmtowndawg
“That....is a human...head.”
The character does a funny/moving action with his head while he says the work head. I cannot think of the movie and normally I have a very good, completely useless skill of doing so. ETA: was it Matt Lillard in a movie? Damn I just cant place it...

re: Any Entergy workers on the board? - MSUmtowndawg
That ice storm was before my working days but the guys I went to Panama City with for Michael said the destruction looked like Katrina and that ice storm with the snapped pines. I met a MpCo storeroom man from my hometown during Michael and he let me know wher the lay down yard was at for the st...

re: Any Entergy workers on the board? - MSUmtowndawg
Distribution only experience. It goes much faster when rebuilding completely. The smaller taps on side streets take a bit more time. Lots of TLine structures damaged down there and that takes a lot longer to get/set. Not my area so I can't comment much. Supply chain becomes a challenge after...

re: Hurricane Katrina made landfall 15 years ago today - August 29, 2005 - MSUmtowndawg
NOLA wouldn't have had much trouble and the MS coast would have gotten more support. That's not a bitter type answer. It is what it is. Mississippi got destroyed and picked itself up. NOLA got flooded and did NOLA things. My Sister lives in NOLA so this isn't a bitter MS thing. ETA: MEMA, loc...

We usually do volunteer then whoever's turn it is after that. We rotate storms unless you want to go. Linemen usually fill up with volunteers for the OT pay. No per diem, whatever utility request us pays for/provides meals and lodging. Usually they are not good haha...

re: Laura - President Trump visits Lake Charles, Louisiana for Hurricane Response Update - MSUmtowndawg
I worked Hurricane Michael and bent waist structures (metal lattice kind) were twisted into hunks of junk. Concrete TLine structures were snapped 15ft up. I was amazed we rebuilt what we did in 3 weeks. ...

re: What is it like living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a middle aged & class person? - MSUmtowndawg
My friend has a place in BSL and a 24ft Nautic Star. If the winds get over 10-12 and 1-3 ft seas, the ride back from Cat/oyster bay, three mile can get pretty damn rough. We have never tried to get to Chandeleur. ...
