Not until he takes home a Gold Medal at the Olympics.

Of course I don't. But Penrod specifically listed Fournette as a better athlete than Mondo.

By definition...its hard to say because we dont really know his ability with other forms of physical exercise.

Im going to say no because i think there are better athletes that have been through LSU that could have starred in other sports, not just their main focused sport

Elite pole vaulters have incredible speed. Mondo ran a 10.5 100m in HS. If memory serves, Warrick Dunn and Travis Minor were around 10.4 in HS so Mondo is extremely fast.

If you're talking about athletic achievement, sure.

even this is questionable.

EVER does not encompass everything, nor is it defined.

We have had many who have excelled in their own sport
i.e. Lolo Jones, Shaq, etc.

While he is the best to ever pole vault, athleticism and competition varies from one sport to another.

STOP THE "EVER" title given to everything new.
EVER and NEVER cover loooooong periods of time.

He does excel at multiple events, not necessarily multiple sports.

Pole vaulting takes exceptional athletic ability, especially, world class pole vaulting.

Mondo is a freak; too many people don't understand how athletic track and field competitors are.

He's good. He's even great. But we're LSU and we love football above everything else, so he's competing with Joey Burrow. Between the two, there is something special that might only be surpassed within the next hundred years - long after all of us are gone and a great-grandchildren tell the magnificent tale.

This is flat out untrue.

Obviously subjective and excelling at multiple sports (as mentioned) is the side I lean.

I have no idea how good Mondo is at other sports but I'm assuming he's probably pretty good. Also, likely has a very good 40 time and can do other things such as dunk a basketball, etc.

Diehard24 so LSU must not have many true athletes then since very few are good in multiple sports

Pistol Pete, Shaq, Mondo

Sha’Carri Richardson may make it up there depending on how her pro career shakes out.

Can you really say someone is the best athlete ever in such a specialized sport ?

Nobody on this board wants to hear it, but Josh Booty would have to be in this conversation. All-SEC QB, first pick in the MLB draft, golfer and track star.
Just not a Dale Carnegie kind of guy.

Mondo is definitely up there. How high, that's uncertain. Wasn't Cannon a decathlete?

Anyone who says Shaq or Burrow is off the mark, they were gifted performers. Shaq's sole accomplishment is being so big and yet relatively coordinated, most guys his size can't even run. If Shaq was the athlete Chris Jackson was, he'd have been able to jump to where his sternum was at the rim on dunks.
Burrow is all skill, which is different again.

Mondo is certainly up there with Xavier Carter, and if he wins gold I say he passes him. Don't know where that puts him overall.

This is my take on it. I'd be willing to bet Mondo would be a hell of a decathlete, which is an excellent indicator of overall athletic ability. He's tall, lean, fast, and powerful. His worst would be throws, and even that wouldn't be too shabby.

He is the greatest pole vaulter ever to pole vault at LSU. Athlete? Not even in the top 50.
