Chad Jones also won a Natty in both football and Baseball.

I was going to throw him in on the Mitchell sentence, but Jones gets a little more recognition from that time so I just went with Mitchell.
Good looking out though

CJ was a starting safety and significant contributor in the outfield prior to leaving team for Spring Football.
Rejoined baseball team and became a pitcher instead.

“Easier game” is sorta debatable. Regardless there are a lot more basketball players in the world than pole vaulters.

Based on what I consider and athlete(multiple sports), I’d have to say Odell is the best. You already know he can play football which takes amazing athleticism, strength and speed, but he can also throw the shite out of a football, he dunks like it’s nothing, he was offered a pro contract(Canadian League)after throwing some heat at a celebrity game, he went deep taking bp w/the Yankees and he’s not too shabby at soccer. So based on the definition of athlete, I’d say Odell is better than Mondo and one of the best to come through LSU.

He’s bad arse, that’s for sure.

he is the greatest that ever was at a very, very, very specific skillset that requires athleticism. but if we are saying the best 'overall' athlete Mondo doesn't even come close.

quote:that guy would own the NBA today. You obviously have never seen a game where tickey tack fouls aren’t called. In his day, you never went inside. He was 6’5-6 legitimately and handled a ball better than anyone you’ve ever seen. None compared to him then and now. He would be able to cross over and they wouldn’t call carrying.
Maravich
Damn the thoughts and images he created were and still unprecedented. He can only be imitated. He is the originator.

its hard to say because we dont really know his ability with other forms of physical exercise
Go look at the only time he tried to long jump in high school. Look at his 100 M times.

Baloney. You are implying that I brought up the 100 as a way to measure each athlete's athleticism. That's not true. I brought it up to point out that guys who are world class in the 100 meters are better athletes than world class pole vaulters because they face far more competition. Similarly, Fournette and Mathieu face better competition in their fields than Mondo.
To put it in perspective: Are we going to call the Olympic Curling champions the world's best athletes?
By the definition of athlete and it’s context used in sports, the decathlete is considered the worlds greatest athlete.
Claston Bernard is the greatest athlete LSU has ever had. Show me another that is hopping 7’4” and doing what he did on the track. Broke 8000 and was in 2 olympics. Big guy too.
Bet he would dunk a basketball on a shite load of people at 6’4” with those hops.

Now that's just silly.
To you, maybe. But really, is the best deep snapper in the history of LSU athletics the best athlete ever? The third baseman? They are all specialized and deserving of respect but "athlete" is a very broad term. There are many many better in our history.

So? Are we looking for the better athlete or not? Mondo has a faster PR in the 100m by a long shot, jumped 23-5 in long jump, and the 2 highest jumps ever in pole vault. He's objectively a better athlete than Fournette.
How many opposing college athletes has Mondo trucked on the field? Because I think it’s zero.
You’re cherry picking the stats or abilities that consider relevant to prove the greatest athlete ever.

Seriously, why can’t you just celebrate his success without having to put a negative view on his great accomplishments by pulling the “greatest ever” bullshite? So you’re forcing otherwise fans and supporters to cast him in a negative light just to logically refute your idiotic overbroad claims.
fricking idiot douchebag.

In the Olympics where there are multiple sports the greatest athletes are thought to be the decathletes. They aren’t challenged to do a specific skill but instead across a wide range of athletic abilities like sprinting, endurance running, jumping for height and distance, throwing weights and javelins, hurdling and vaulting.
