One could argue that the Duplantis brothers are the most athletic family to play at LSU. Mondo is the greatest Indoor pole vaulter of all time, and Antoine is LSU's career leader in hits

This is my take on it. I'd be willing to bet Mondo would be a hell of a decathlete, which is an excellent indicator of overall athletic ability. He's tall, lean, fast, and powerful. His worst would be throws, and even that wouldn't be too shabby.

There is nothing remotely "tall and powerful" about him which makes his accomplishments all the more impressive to me.

I knew it wouldn’t happen, but when our top sprinter got hurt at the NCAAs last year and mondo was thru with his vaulting I was hoping he’d hop on the relay team. We still had a fighting chance to score enough points to win the meet.

so, i started this thread, and i purposely made the question vague as far as multi sports athletes. i was a (bad) pole vaulter in high school in the stone age 70s with a metal pole. i was a very good all around athlete then, and i can tell you that pole vaulting is the single most difficult sports event i have ever attempted. it takes speed, strength, and guts beyond imagination.

In the Olympics where there are multiple sports the greatest athletes are thought to be the decathletes. They aren’t challenged to do a specific skill but instead across a wide range of athletic abilities like sprinting, endurance running, jumping for height and distance, throwing weights and javelins, hurdling and vaulting.

exactly why I posted Claston Bernard is LSUs greatest athlete.

Mondo will be the best pole vaulter to attend LSU but as of now he is not even the most accomplished/beat pole vaulter at LSU ever.

He needs to win more national championships, he has 1 as of now. I'm sure it will come, but Russ Buller won 2 and was 7 time all American,6 time sec champion and held both indoor and outdoor until Mondo broke them. Plus Buller ran 100m relay. To me Buller is still the best as of now and is in the hall of fame.

I predict he will never win another national championship or be named all-American again for LSU ?? However, he is clearly the best pole-vaulter to ever compete for LSU.

How many opposing college athletes has Mondo trucked on the field? Because I think it’s zero. You’re cherry picking the stats or abilities that consider relevant to prove the greatest athlete ever.

And you’re not? Besides “trucking”, what stat do you have?

Just came across this trailer to what looks like a very interesting forthcoming documentary on Mondo. It looks like it covers his youth and his footage from high school and LSU and then into his pro career.

Yes, however, you will likely have some people chime in on old players despite them playing in a significantly easier game (Cannon, Casanova, Maravich, etc).

Pistol Pete Maravich

His NCAA all time scoring record “while playing at LSU” will never be broken.

No...in terms of what he may or will accomplish at lsu maybe but he ain't even representing usa(I dont care the reason, it's still a front runners approach) in the Olympics....if he is the best ,he coulda qualified for the USA team...but he didnt, he took easy route...not the best imo....

Joe Burreaux and what he accomplished for the tigers and himself.....the goat...

I don’t think Mondo is the greatest, but Dude, do you know what track athletes get paid in Europe vs. USA? Similar situation as Soccer. I don’t blame a guy for getting paid and wanting to play in the big leagues. We only care about T&F 1 out of 4 years. Hell Olympic athletes have to have regular jobs. And what if the Olympic Games are cancelled or postponed this year.
