He is the greatest pole vaulter ever to pole vault at LSU. Athlete? Not even in the top 50.

Now that's just silly.

Put some respect on Olympic hero Bennie Brazell's name.

Yes, however, you will likely have some people chime in on old players despite them playing in a significantly easier game (Cannon, Casanova, Maravich, etc).

LOL, there is probably, no event where equipment improvements have resulted in greater performance improvement than the pole in pole vaulting. Old timers had a pole made of bamboo or aluminum not a composite with greater flexibility that allowed the jumper to elevate considerably higher.

For the record, Mondo is a whole 0.10 seconds faster in the 100m than Leonard Fournette. Mondo ran 10.57 on a whim at regionals in high school.

Now, tell me what would happen if they both got up a head of steam and ran into each other?

Penrod was the one to bring up "talent" in the 100m, which Mondo is more talented in

Baloney. You are implying that I brought up the 100 as a way to measure each athlete's athleticism. That's not true. I brought it up to point out that guys who are world class in the 100 meters are better athletes than world class pole vaulters because they face far more competition. Similarly, Fournette and Mathieu face better competition in their fields than Mondo.

To put it in perspective: Are we going to call the Olympic Curling champions the world's best athletes?

Not until he takes home a Gold Medal at the Olympics

In which case, the gold will go to Sweden...

They wouldn’t run into each other, Mondo would vault him

Athlete? Probably not. Could he succeed in multiple sports and movements? To define “athlete” you’d think of a person that could be a multi sport star, multi movement stud. He is obviously great but how would he compete in other competitions?

I always considered Mike Miley to be the best athlete ever to wear multiple LSU uniforms.

Quarterbacked LSU to an Orange Bowl back when playing in a bowl on New Year's day meant something.

First-round draft choice of the Los Angles Angels and up and playing MLB that year.

The guy was a phenom.

Cool. Fournette ran a 10.6 in HS with about 60 pounds on Mondo. I don't know Mondo's strength, but I doubt it would be anywhere NEAR Fournette's pound for pound. Agility? Fournette all day. Mondo possibly has a higher vert than Fournette, but again, Fournette has 60 pounds on the guy.

It's really not even close. Let Fournette grab a pole from ages 7 to 19 with a super support system and nothing but that in mind and there is no doubt in my mind he is also breaking world records.

Well he’s pole vaulting for Sweden , he’s a dual citizenship , so LSU and USA doesn’t seem to be in the mix

This is absurd. "If Fournette had focused on pole vault he'd be a world record holder" is an incredibly misinformed opinion.

Not even close. Fournette would be a horrible pole vaulter. That 60 pounds you keep mentioning would ground him like a tank. Just because a heavy fast athlete is heavy and fast doesn't make him superior. No such thing as 235lbs pole vaulters. Mondo would smash LF in a long jump competition. 235lb guys aren't long jumping at the Olympics. LF is a great football player. That doesn't make him a better athlete. Mondo is the better athlete. Who do you think would win in a mile run right now ? I'm going with Mondo. You don't see 235lb track guys who run the mile.

edit* Mondo
