Why would conservatives do this?!? there's no real difference between the two parties, only brainwashed dumbasses think there is.
I didn’t mention a political party.

Don’t forget to tip your landlord this month…they’ve been working hard

You admitted you only did so when you realized they wouldn't be forgiven. I would say the comparison is fair.
I doubt a lot of folks on here would do well on the MMPI

Another bad comparison but I am the landlord on a few. I'll gladly take a tip if my tenants want to give it to me.

Exactly. Absolutely these are the types of solutions Republicans should have been pushing but instead they hear "college loans" and just say "pay your debts" and move on. It's the dumbest thing imaginable and honestly a huge "own goal" by the GOP. They're giving Dems votes by not advancing conservative solutions to this issue.

Paid back over 150 grand. I’ve served my time so no sympathy from this hombre.

Full ride for a finance degree from your local CC isn't going to impress anyone on this board.

This. And I don’t understand the uproar re forgiveness when we are sending billions to Ukraine, will be supporting the illegals, and nevermind the usual welfare crowd. I’d rather forgive all loans with stipulations and stop all of the other wasteful taxpayer funding.

Years ago, I deferred pmts a few times, due to some majorly catastrophic life events, some related precarious financial times (08-09), and then just plain financial math (e.g., why pay off a 0% loan the past few years when CD rates are circa 5%?), so I still have a balance from law school.
But I’ve never missed a payment, mostly avoided interest capitalization, and it took me 10 minutes to find my new servicer (I had to reconsolidate to direct fed loans to “take advantage” of no interest COVID crap) and set up autopay in time for the resumption of pmts.
They actually sua sponte lowered my payment by 25%.
Point being: why is this stuff so difficult and life-altering for people who (by definition) at least got into college?

40 million Americans are on the hook for a monthly bill they haven’t needed to make in more than three years
1. The debt never went away, so it was short sighted for anyone to bank on it being gone.
2. There were a few options to work it to one's advantage:
a. Make payments any way, interest free. 3 years of hitting the principal only is a big deal. Also, the fed had a provision for refunding payments made up to the forgiveness amount, so there wasn't much to lose here.
b. Save your payments in a high yield savings account then dump that whole balance as a lump sum payment against your loan balance.
3. Nothing wrong with comparing your loan balance with the proposed forgiveness amount and planning accordingly, especially if you know you can knock out the balance should forgiveness not happen.
4. Sadly, people were dumb anyway. There were many with balances that were at least 2x the max forgiveness and yet they treated the pause as a bill they did not have to worry about. They ignored this at their own risk.
5. No, the core issue of the cost of a college education has not been addressed and likely will not. It's hard pill for the masses to swallow that not everybody should go to college and, of those who do, many will not a get a degree worth the paper it's printed on.

for clarification, I'm not upset about paying back money I owe. I'm upset with how much my wife owes.

The real bitch is that in the meantime the cost living has nearly doubled in many places. That resumption of payments will hit much harder than before CoVID.

A large portion of current inflation is due to out of control consumer spending. This student loan break has just exacerbated it.

He said publicly he takes advantage of all the loopholes available to him. Take whichever ones you can find. You have my blessing in that endeavor.
