akdown of society
She was pretty proud of herself once she looked at it differently and I was most proud of her.

this is a big factor that's being overlooked, I thought of this when I looked at the "where would you go if society broke down?" thread, the attitude of irresponsibilty and letting someone else take the hit for my obligations is part of the breakdown of society

For the record, mine were paid off well ahead of schedule.

But either way, it's not about sticking it to the man. The federal government who now prints whatever the hell they think they need gave me the option to not pay. Why would I pay?

That could also happen if we forgave student loans and ramped inflation up more.

True, but they're spending either way. I'd have rather they spent money on this than Ukraine. Instead we're going to get the government spending (which is a double-negative against the economy) AND a bunch of people defaulting on a bunch of stuff they couldn't afford.

I don't think forgiveness was the solution, but starting it back like this also isn't going to help things. I also think doing it this way makes it more likely we end up with full forgiveness. The Dems are definitely going to be running on college loans forgiveness and "Republicans have no plan for the college loans crisis" (which is true) and I think they've set this up perfectly for that. They'll be talking about this during election season right as all the morons who will let the interest accrue for a year start paying again and seeing that their balance is suddenly higher now "for no reason."

Ya boi is going to be making minimum monthly payments. My basic savings account is making 1.5% APR higher than my student loans

Neither side will do the reasonable thing and address how colleges piss money away on frivolous things while squeezing students for $700 "mandatory" new books, parking fees and ect.

The cost of college has gotten outrageous due to all the loan money pouring in. If the govt just forgives the loans, universities will continue to raise prices/spend knowing daddy govt will bail them out.

Paid off $60k a few months back. Not from working in my field either. I would be on the forever payment with a job in my field. College has its place, but I don’t deem it necessary.

You’re right, giving the government $3,000 of a balance they’ve forgiven is definitely the best use of the funds. They are good with money.

Don’t worry. I’m sure those people have been prudently saving that extra money over the past three years.

Did you borrow the money or not?

Did you do so under duress or something?

Unimaginable to expect people to be financially responsible, right?

I don't think they did anyone a favor delaying it this long, but if you borrow money you should pay it back. I did, so did a lot of other people.

Why does nobody understand the difference between "paid" and "payed"?

I paid it all off shite for brains, but if the balance was deemed forgiven automatically (as was being proposed) why for the love of frick would I willingly write a check to the fricking US government for $3,100 so i can feel honorable? They’d probably have refund it anyway. Do you also overpay your car mechanic if you think he undercharged you? FFS.

Kept paying mine. Never stopped and paid off the principal back in May. Took 18 years to the month. Wife’s nursing school loans start back today. Hopefully have those paid off in the next 3-4 years.

You do you. Just please never complain about someone on WIC, LA Purchase, Section 8, etc again

The mindset you show right now and those on the programs are pretty much the same.

You’re comparing someone who paid off their student loans in full with people who mooch WIC….

You admitted you only did so when you realized they wouldn't be forgiven. I would say the comparison is fair.
