He kept prying saying my presence was needed. I said I'm staying on PTO. I was asked to join several meetings throughout the day because of a lack of knowledge with other employees.
Your boss sounds horrible. Truly. And he’s clearly taking advantage of your work ethic.
If anything it sounds like you’re the kind of employee he should be supporting because of the work you do.
I’d be looking elsewhere. He clearly doesn’t value you and looks at you as the guy he can offload all his shite on. He needs you to bend like Gumby so he doesn’t have to be held accountable as a shitty boss who doesn’t hold all of his folks accountable for the work they do.

I would come in and cover before I would renege on an approved PTO day for one of my guys.

Tell him eat a dick. You put in a month ago and it got approved. There is no reason why you should have to cancel while your peer put in later than you did.
Tell him you are taking the day off, he can fire you if he wants.. You will find another job.. But you are taking the day off.

no, and as a manager i have never done this to anyone. very POOR thing to do.
I had this done to me twice: Once during finals week, and I took the day off anyway. The other was a pre-planned trip to Michigan that was in Nov, so during the holiday season. Got it approved, then my manager decides to deny the PTO. She didn't "want to give me special treatment", even though, it was approved months in advance. I went on the trip anyway (but got penalized, but did not care).
I have approved PTO, then had some unforeseen circumstances, which necessitated this person to work (we lost two employees in a matter of days). I did not deny the PTO, but I tried to talk her into delaying her PTO. I offered her a 2-for-1 deal, but she couldn't take it (although she was somewhat interested). It was a long week, but I committed to giving her the PTO, so I honored it. Any other way is not acceptable.

Yes. I ignored it. Nothing bad happened and they never tried that shite again. I didn't even call in, I just told them I wasn't coming approved or not. I had a very good reason and it was months in advance so they could go frick themselves.

PTO = Prepare The Others because I'm not going to be there!

If I put in a pto day a while first then I’m not changing it. If they don’t like it they can fire me and I’ll get another job likely making more.
Right now with the labor market as it is, if your field is easy to move to another job then I’d take a stand.

I am the administrator and have the ability in my portal to revoke PTO after it was approved. I would never do that, but I can if I wanted to.

Boss: "Rank has its privileges. Deal with it or find another job".
Hate it, but it's the way of the world. When I was a young sailor, I had frequent trouble with waiting for a hard-to-get appointment... at the Dentist, pay clerks, etc etc... and when it was my turn or close to it, some Lieutenant JG or Ensign or LT would walk right in and "RHIP, you'll just have to wait longer". Try being on an aircraft carrier in the North Arabian Sea in the middle of July, blazing hot, too much for the ship's air handler units to keep up with, and you've got a hundred guys backed up stairway ladders waiting to get in and buy basic things like soap and shaving cream, and then some fuzz-faced Ensign just walks straight in and steps ahead of everyone (officer's privelege on a ship). I never saw so many damn death stares in my life.

What did you have planned?
Posted on 6/30/23 at 6:42 pm to BoogaBear
What field are you in? Can’t imagine how they couldn’t make it one day without you

My first job ever at age 15 I planned a fishing trip with my dad on a day I wasn’t scheduled to work. Owner was an a-hole and everyone hated him. He tells me the day before that he needed me to come in and that the fishing trip wasn’t that important.

You better be making $300K+ to be putting up with that shite.

Best way is to have already paid for tickets or something non refundable but you'll probably need proof of that.
That's the way to go, provide documents. Some companies will fully refund you if they require you to go to work.

You hsve expensive plans that you would need to be reimbursed for to even consider it. Your flight was $800 and the Airbnb is nonrefundable. You need $2200 plus your pay or all you hear is blah blah blah.
