Because most rescues are full of self important women that value their power and control over you more than they value the life of the dogs they’ve “rescued.”

Women and libs have this amazing ability to ruin everything

It literally says in my post, we don’t have a fenced yard we live on multiple acres, we don’t have previous vet relationship, and we had a kid under 5. Can you read??

Apparently you can add poor communicator to the list of reasons.

Looking at one of the non-profits in New Orleans and the prices are absurd: $550 for a "benefactor" puppy, which they describe as a "rescue that is purebred or in high demand."

Ummm. Non-profits still have budgets and of they can makeup for budget shortfalls by increasing prices on pups that are easy to relocate then you take advantage of that to help run your shelter and provide the extra space for the dogs that take longer to adopt.

Do you choose to be ignorant?

One of the Nola rescue groups would no approved because the question asked about neutering/spade and I said I'm not for it.

No follow up as to why or anything like that. Just a message saying that since I was against their policy I am not a quality candidate

My last dog I went to a breeder because of this. I felt like local adoption agencies get you in with one dog but don't tell you many other people already applied for the dog. They make it hard to get a dog. Then you go to shelters and it's all old dogs and pitbulls. The adoption agencies grab the best most easily adoptable dogs and leave the ones most likely not to find homes behind.

I'll give you $50 to take our psycho dog. He destroys furniture, sheds extremely bad, digs holes, will bite you if he becomes angry and has homosexual tendencies towards our older lab. Other than those things, he is a great dog.

You adopted Rex?

The rescue my dog came from does good work. I gave them $100 over the "adoption fee" and bought them a heavy duty shelf to better store their food.
Different people value different things. My dog is my best friend. I say it's money well spent and I also value my dog more than a dollar.

important to know if previous pets were kept up to date on vaccinations

You do realize that the core vaccines last a lifetime, don't you?

Say "ensure previous pets were given adequate veterinary care" but "up to date on vaccinations" shows how unqualified you are to judge.

I got mine from Companion by LSU for less than $200 including all her shots. Best investment I ever made. She's a heart breaker.

check out dogs for sale I'm shocked at the prices. Dogs going for $1000 to $2500 and up from there.

Well-bred dogs from responsible breeders are in that price range, dogs whose parents and grandparents all underwent a battery of genetic, physical, and temperament tests to "stack the deck" in the favor of a predictable, healthy, sound pup.
Paying that much for a BYB dog you found on craigslist is dumb.

Whats wrong with a home check? Why don't you try to find out some of the horror stories.

I just rescued a Frenchie. 8 years old. Dog is very timid. Cowers when you say come here no matter how nice you say it. Doesn't know how to play. Doesn't know how to show affection. Very timid. Never had shots, including rabies or bordatella because she wasn't taken in for checkups.

Came from a redneck woman who had 15 dogs in her home. Half of them living in their own crap. Vet begged me to get this one as she was going to put it down because it allegedly bit one of her grandkids. Uh huh. I suspect it was agitated like crazy by a kid because this dog shows all the trademarks of an abused dog.

Not sure if you've noticed, but over the past year the price of everything has gone OOC.

I love the morons in here questioning rescue organization prices. Have you seen vet bills? Yeah rescues spend a ton to bring these dogs in and get them up to date medically and to house these dogs at fosters because they don’t have shelters. The cost is also to keep frickheads from adopting from them, it will get people that are serious about taking care of the dog, which is also the point of the interview process. Rescues are not a puppy mill, it’s not about selling the dog, it’s about getting exceptional homes for them. They don’t need you, they want good owners.

These places that take the better dogs, charge an arse ton for them, and then say they are doing a service is just insane to me.
