We were considering getting a second dog and the topic of rescues came up. Looking at one of the non-profits in New Orleans and the prices are absurd: $550 for a "benefactor" puppy, which they describe as a "rescue that is purebred or in high demand." When you factor in all the BS involved with applying, a reference check, a home inspection, all before they even let you know if you're "qualified" to adopt one of their dogs, I see why people skip all this and go to a breeder.

Dear Facebook, I know.

That's their way of telling you to stop shopping the shelter for purebreds. They don't have any trouble getting those adopted.

Yeah, we’ve had several rescues, the only thing “rescued” is a few hundred bucks out of the wallet

I'll give you $50 to take our psycho dog. He destroys furniture, sheds extremely bad, digs holes, will bite you if he becomes angry and has homosexual tendencies towards our older lab. Other than those things, he is a great dog.

I have a bigger issue with the judginess that comes with using a rescue. Looked into giving a tripod a home and that lady said my house seemed “too chaotic” for her taste.

My rescue was $35. His breath perpetually smells like onions and garbage. He also shite on the floor this morning.

You get what you pay for.

You have a point though. By the time you jump through all of those hoops you could pay about the same and get a puppy with a clean slate and papers.

Yep, i couldn’t adopt a catahoula as an inside dog several years ago because i didn’t have a fenced in yard. I live on 5 acres.

Never been back since.

I love rescues, especially older ones. Plus, if you’re single, rescues are babe magnets.

I have noticed this attitude also. Our rescued from outside kitty is spoiled AF but the shelter may consider my extreme OCD or health problems an issue. Well that OCD translates into the best food and vet care for a street cat and my health issues means I put a lot of time into training him so jokes on them.

I tried to get a rescue as an inside family dog and the rescue were such assholes I went to facebook and bought a puppy from a middle class white couple.

Cant stand the dog bc shes incredibly stupid. However the wife and kids adore her so thats good at least.

Our local shelter loves us and will give us whatever mutt we want without jumping through a bunch of dumb hoops but I’m picky.

I’d love a sheltie but the rescue rules can be ridiculous. One lady had a problem with one side of my fence being a different material than the other sides.

Did you think you’d really not pay a premium for a purebread?

There's a Poodle Mix rescue organization with like $500-600 adoption fees. That's not a rescue, that's a business.
