I paid $350 for my Boxer girl as a puppy with papers and adopted my male Boxer from Baton Rouge for $50. These non profit shelters are getting stupid with the re-homing and adoption fees.

What an idiotic statement following your little rant about how expensive everything is. Considering the alternative is death or to be caged at some shelter indefinitely, you would think these rescues would stop with their sanctimonious bullshite and work to actually get these dogs adopted instead of holding people to unrealistic standards in order to stroke their own egos.
This just shows you don’t know what you are talking about, rescues that are charging this type of money will be ones that foster and the animal will never be in a shelter, it will be in someone’s home that is use to fostering rescues. They are prepared to keep the dog indefinitely if a suitable owner isn’t found and a lot of them will keep foster dogs. Usually they are breed specific and the people who run them absolutely love and care for these types of dogs extremely well. They are never endanger of death once in that type of rescue program unless medically necessary. Some of these types of programs even write it in the application to adopt one of their dogs that if the dog isn’t being treated well, it can be taken back by the rescue org from you.
Shelters you are talking about don’t tend to charge much and are funded by more than just volunteers and adoptees.
There are lots of other ways to get dogs if you don’t like dealing with this type of rescue program. It’s definitely not for everyone as it is designed to be that way.

We were considering getting a second dog and the topic of rescues came up. Looking at one of the non-profits in New Orleans and the prices are absurd: $550 for a "benefactor" puppy, which they describe as a "rescue that is purebred or in high demand." When you factor in all the BS involved with applying, a reference check, a home inspection, all before they even let you know if you're "qualified" to adopt one of their dogs, I see why people skip all this and go to a breeder.
Not all rescues are like this.
There is one in Nola that I believe you are referring to that is run by a bunch of Karens. No brick and mortar shelter, but a network of home fosters instead. They obviously think very highly of their organization and dogs. In addition to me, I've had several friends who've also have bad experiences with them.
Very invasive adoption process and every step came with a huge helping of judgment and skepticism that the answers I provided were accurate.
I put up with it because I fell in love with one of their dogs, but after jumping through all their BS hoops, I was told I wasn't a good candidate for ANY of their dogs because I lost a dog 6 years prior to cancer and I chose not to have a necropsy done after he died. My vet told me after that he did not appreciate the interrogation of a phone call he got from them as a "vet check."
My advice: find another shelter that isn't run by miserable bitches.

We paid $900 for a Corgi puppy last year. He’s a badass little dude. And we didn’t have to do all the BS required to adopt.

Jack Russells are well known escape artists. I understand the fence requirement.

$500-600 for adoption. This price isn't high? What do you think?

What about the other $20? You said pay $50 then said it was the best $30 you ever spent.
The best dogs you can get is a mutt that you save.

I think $500-600 is excessive. I guess I get the point now that they "sell" these high dollar easy to adopt dogs to make overhead. $300-350 is the most I would be willing to pay to adopt and that would be a puppy.
