Wrong. Sidewalks are for walking and running.

They’re fine for bikes.

Also, most municipalities in the US do not maintain the sidewalks. Sidewalks are more dangerous for road bikes as they are uneven and cracked.

The roads built for cars are not safe for bikes and is a hazard for bikes and cars alike.

Well you’re going 20mph on a 50mph highway and people have places to go

It's crazy how multiple cities and countries are much safer than Louisiana for cyclists and cars alike. Are all those places capped at 20mph? That's the only explanation I can think of

I just cannot understand the cyclist hatred here. There is no cycling culture in south Louisiana to justify this hatred.

Outside of around St Francisville, I almost never see cyclists around BR and the surrounding area. I see nearly as many touring cyclists using the Audubon to cross the river than just about anywhere else. I live just below the NC line is SC and did a short 25m ride yesterday morning before the games started and saw at least 20 riders more than I see driving 500 miles around BR.

I am much more likely to get pissed at cars and trucks than cyclists while driving but admit I have a better understanding of what a cyclist is going to do in any given situation than a non-cyclist.

I tend to follow the rules of the road all the time, if there is a car anywhere around it is 100%, I will admit to "rolling stops" through stop signs when there are absolutely no cars. There aren't many roads I avoid completely but will avoid some at certain times ie you won't find me riding on Highland Rd at 5pm.

I will say of all the places I have ridden LA and MS have the worst on-road attitude about cyclists. Someone mentioned NYC being bad. I did a couple of summers in college as a bike messenger in the city, for me it was kinda like gonzo journalism without the writing. I actually felt safer than I do on SELA roads because there I knew everything, including other cyclists, was actively trying to kill me.

Has anyone said "wanna roll like a vehicle, be treated like a vehicle!"?

I hate when I am out running on trails. I've been hit from behind by bikers twice while running and both times the biker blamed me even though the person in front has the right of way.

For some reason these cyclists think they can break the laws but wants to be treated as everyone else on the road. Follow the rules or get off the road.

I go riding 2-3 times a week in between running... and I agree with you. This is probably a popular opinion, not unpopular. If you are going to act like you are a vehicle mind the rules and if you can get out of the way of an approaching vehicle you should.

It's not about "if" you can but "if" you should; stop being a douche bag (the cyclist who act like this).

The prettiest woman I've ever seen in my life in person was killed while riding a bicycle in a Beaumont neighborhood. She was the wife of the big boss....

The Portland stop allows cyclist to treat red lights as yields. It's not law here but many want it to be. Also they want salmoning to be legal. It's technically illegal to ride a bike on a road against traffic.

More like I'm riding 22 in a 35 mph street in the bike lane.

You fatties are irrationally angry.

Stay very fat and mad though.

I'm a driver and a cyclist. Most of us DO pay taxes. I've been riding for 18 years. I won't ride in South Louisiana any more, mostly because of two lane roads, no shoulders, and folks that are angry before even considering that I might agree with them. It's against the law to ride on the sidewalk because of the potential danger to pedestrians. Betsy Price, the former mayor of Fort Worth, helped get a 3 foot rule passed there, meaning drivers have to be more than 3 feet away when passing. My pet peeve: fellow cyclists that create a rolling road block - they ride side by side by side by side, going really slow and yacking, paying no attention to vehicles. At least ride single file, on the right, together so drivers aren't impeded and can safely pass.

Some are just like some drivers are dickheads. Bicyclist paid for the road in the same way motorists paid but get no courtesy ever. I started riding 6 months ago for low-impact leg exercise and love everything except sharing roads with all you turds
