What’s on everyone’s menus for New Year’s Eve?

Trying to think of something to cook

Parents offered to buy me two racks of Baby Backs if I smoked 2 racks for them. Slaw, peas, and stewed cabbage. And probably a Bloody Mary.

Blackeye peas were cooked yesterday and are in the fridge awaiting the 1st.

I will also smother down some cabbage in a basic recipe of first browning off some diced bacon, remove it from the pan and use some of the bacon grease to caramelize some onions, then garlic, then cabbage and cook till tender before adding the bacon back into it.

Cornbread, probably jacked up a bit with jalapenos to sop it all up with.

I cook on NYD, but we're having a spin on the classics:

Creamy balsamic pork loin medallions
Roasted brussels sprouts with bacon, blue cheese and balsamic
Zipper cream peas from my MIL's garden
Potatoes in white sauce (my MaMaw's recipe)
Sister Schubert's rolls

We're having fajitas at a friend's house on NYE, on NY Day I'm smoking a pastrami with sauteed cabbage and black eyed peas on the side.

My plans were to have cabbage, black eye peas and cornbread on New Year Eve and smoke a prime rib roast on New Year Day. But with the impending rain and super cold weather coming on New Year day we will be doing everything on New Year Eve instead. My wife will be taking care of the cabbage and black eye peas while I smoke the prime rib roast.

Family tradition to always order takeout Chinese for NYE. NYD we'll have ham, collards, m&c, black-eyed peas, and candied yams.

Going over to my moms for her smorgasbord of dips and apps. She usually has:
7 Layer
Guacamole
Salsa
Queso
Boursin ball
Shrimp dip
Plain old ranch
BBQ meatballs
Sausage cheese balls
Heavenly hash
Those spicy saltine crackers
Pralines
A punch she makes with Sprite, pineapple juice, pineapple sherbet, and coconut milk
I’m probably missing something.

The big New Year’s Eve party I was supposed to attend was canceled because of you know what so I had to call an audible. We are staying home and having a big Waygu ribeye for two with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot and a bottle of Chateau Montelena Estate Cab. Fine with me.

Our party is still on. It’s mostly outside anyway, with just the food and bar inside.

Got it catered by Nine Dragon:
General Tso Chicken
Amazing Chicken
Pepper Steak with Onions
Beef and Broccoli
Lo Mein
Fried Rice
Egg Rolls

Plus some apps - Marinated cheese ring, cranberry and apricot cream cheese spread, misc. dips, veggie tray, boudin and sausage
