It's fast Tex Mex but they make their own tortillas and they have breakfast tacos all day.

McAllister's in general is pretty good, but that location has the worst service of any FF restaurant I've ever been too.

It was mind boggling how bad the service was the one time we went. It's like they just pressed random buttons in the computer when we ordered and gave us whatever came from that.

The first and last time I went it was like the people couldn't be bothered taking my order. When I got my food it was barely what I would call a sandwich. Just garbage tier effort and product from that location.

Sounds like everything around there is closing, good thing I moved
I was really happy with all the options around there when I lived in Southdowns.

"Everything" is not closing down. There's a CFA, Whataburger, Finbomb, Waffle House, Fuego, Panda Xpress, Albasha, Jimmy John's, Jason's Deli, Dave's Hot Chicken and Chipotle right in that area. If all that is too low rent for you Mike Anderson's is just down the street.

[edit] Can't believe I forgot Cheba Hut. My gracious.

These two for sure. No idea how either of them is still in bidness.
100%

You can get a couple of thick cut loin chops at supermarkets for $7.50. Pork shoulder is even cheaper for more meals, and can be used in a lot of ways!

Farmed salmon is also fairly cheap, although not nearly on the same level as pork.

Beef is great but there are other proteins besides it and chicken.
Lately a reverse sear to 125, then finished the sear in a shallot/thyme/butter sauce.

Served on the side: slow sauted onions and mushrooms with garlic and thyme.Usually do small yukons for potatoes, or garlic bread if I'm feeling a bit carby.

Woodward sucks for the hire and contract.

What do you think about the $90+ mil over 7 years for LK? Is that cool?

[e]: Scott Woodward didn't make that offer.
The absolute worst are the BR natives who've never lived anywhere else, but will sit there and shite talk every other metro area in 500 miles.

If you were just going to do that anyway it's not much of a sacrifice

From what I understand there is a lot more to the Nuss story

Never saw any of that on the field.

[Edit]: Didn't start yesterday, so add that to your Nuss story. $3 million down the drain for nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Sous vide???
It's set it and forget it. Plus it keeps the rice warm and moist until you're ready to eat.

[e]: I'm like you, I like to cook my rice on the stove top. But rice cookers do have their place and there's a reason people love them.
Iverstine's has them regularly, but call ahead as they usually only have 2 or 3 in stock.

The oil pan is plastic

Just to expand on this, and yes I'm quoting myself, but the problem with this is that the drain plug on the oil pan isn't plastic, it's metal. So every time you have your oil changed, unless you're doing it yourself, you run the risk of the tech over-tightening the plug. If you over-tighten a metal drain plug on a plastic oil pan the chances are very high that the whole thing needs to be replaced.

If it's under warranty, great. But knowing that risk, why would you buy that? Just get a Toyota/Subaru/Honda whatever suits your fancy. Jeep/Ram/Dodge/Chrysler is trash. Teslas look like Brother/Epson designed a printer/car and just went with it.

/Rant off.

The oil pan is plastic, and Stellantis, the corp that owns Jeep/Ram/Chrysler, is a dumpster fire. They've rebranded and priced Jeep as a luxury brand when it's clearly just a cash grab.

If you want a commuter get something made to commute, not a performative off-roader that will never off-road.

If by "real" you mean "cope," then yes it's quite real.
Modesto has some great fried oyster tacos right now, and their brunch selection is solid if you're into Mexican for brunch.

re: Straining Ground Beef

Posted by marcus3000 on 10/17/25 at 3:59 pm to
You should brown your ground beef, not boil it or steam it. If there is liquid, whether water or fat, you haven't browned it. You should not have to drain anything. Browning ground beef should be at high temp until it gets crusty, then you lower the temp after the liquid is evaporated. You will need to break it up during this time. If you're impatient and want steamed ground meat, then drain it. If you want flavor, let it brown.
