A bust? Please. Get real.
a RB picked in the first round that has ZERO 1000 yard seasons is at least a disappointment. Barron and some others didn't exactly set the world on fire. No school bats 1.000

Remember that time #4 LSU lost to #11 Florida 51-21? I do.

Jimbo had one skull fricking loss in the ACC. He lost three times last year.
Why is he the guy?
How about this. Last 4 years, lets look at Les and Jimbo head to head in their conferences. We can get an idea of the recent trending.
Jimbo:
29-3
Les:
20-12

You don't want Jimbo but you want shaw?
She runs more of a traditional pro style than Jimbo.
I honestly don't know that much about Shaw and I just quoted the other poster. The part I agreed with him on was that Herman should be the 1st choice, and then offering Herman more money than he can dream of should be the 2nd choice, and then Jimbo should be third.
If we're gonna tear this thing down and rebuild it give me the guy who is obviously motivated to rebuild and wants to be the absolute best. Jimbo is a solid choice, I just don't think he's at a point in his career where he will work his arse off to prove he's the best, and that's exactly what it's gonna take to compete with the big boys in today's CFB. Jimbo's product on the field may look different, but I think at the end of most seasons we're still scratching our heads at two or three losses and talking about next year, exactly what FSU is doing right now.

How much of that is on him and how much is on the play calling? Serious question. He came very close to 1,000 yards in 2014, finishing with 964 on 226 carries (in 13 games). Those 226 carries were a career high. Some years he's not gotten as many carries due to injury, but in some years it has been because Payton continues to use him improperly.
Ingram has averaged 4.9, 4.3, 4.6, and 4.6 per carry the last 4 seasons.
Spiller was drafted the year before Ingram and he's out of the league. Richardson (Bama's real true bust) was drafted the next year and he's out of the league. Knowshown Moreno was drafted 2 years before Ingram and he's been out of league since 2014.
Ingram hasn't been All Pro, but he's far from a bust.

Barron was used poorly by the Tampa staff. He was traded to the Rams, who just signed him to a 5 year $45M deal this off season after he led them in tackles last year. Wouldn't call him a bust either.

totally agree with you there.

As a Saints fan, I really hated the pick, not because of Ingram per se, but i thought it was a stupid overreaction (they 3-4 RB get hurt the year before) and was a waste for a passing team.

Without reading any of the replies in this thread, my first thought is that if you are truly asking this question than I'm not sure you are competent enough to understand the response and the reasoning behind it. Why would Jimbo be an upgrade over Gene Chizik, Larry Coker or Mack Brown? It's a ridiculous topic.

I guess you have to look at the fact that Miles took an established program that Saban built and won a championship. Miles has never done that with the talent he brought in. Additionally, Miles has had year after of top five recruiting classes and has started each year with top ten rankings only to drop the last several years. if you look at the numbers the program is in a steady decline. You have to think that Fisher, with the higher quality of recruits and an actual offensive plan, would be more successful than Miles has been. I have to believe going into a championship game against Alabama, that Fisher would have made adjustments to win the game. I have to believe that Brandon Harris would be a better Qb today under Fisher. Fisher does not have the clock management issue Miles has had over a 12 year period. And where Miles does not seem to have the willingness to adjust and change to win, Fisher does. Miles has not looked interested in 3 years and knew he had a big buyout. Frankly, I think anyone with desire will be an improvement on Miles.

Good fit, recruits as well as Miles, better offensive mind and simply a smarter football coach. Will let his DC take care of the D.
JF would be a great hire. The best? Maybe not, but a damn solid hire nonetheless.
Argument could be made that another candidate might be "better" but an argument cannot be made the JF would be a bad hire.

Check out the improvement of Josh Booty and Rohan his 1st year at LSU.

He has done better than Miles the last few years without the benefit of having a too notch DC to carry his arse.
1. Who hires the DC?
2. So mr. 70 Kevin Steele was a "top notch DC?" Miles essentially won 10 games with him as DC

he would be an upgrade over Miles. He runs a more modern version of the 'Pro style' offense that Miles/Cam ran and the execution is much better. Recruiting they are about what and what. Miles was a pretty dam good recruiter considering the state of the program so not sure if Fisher would actually be better than Miles at recruiting. He would be a competent coach, something that I'm not sure can be said about Miles in recent years. He's just a safe pick that would assure that LSU is at least in the second tier of SEC programs year in year out. Probably a safer choice than Fedora or Klingsbury or Kleiman.

Jimbo will probably keep up recruiting, maintain LSU as a contender every four or five years, and drive us crazy the rest of the time. Anyone who thinks he will do better than that is deluding themselves just because they want different.
true, but that's not so bad, is it? We probably won't unseat Bama as kings of the SEC with Fisher, but we will field a competive competent team.

Jimbo has, relative to the LSU staff, been handcuffed on what he can spend on assistant coaches.
Miles, with the highest paid staff in college football, has consistently underachieved, considering the amount of NFL caliber talent he has had to work with. Not just NFL talent, but standout NFL talent.
