It doesn't matter. Many just wanted Miles gone from the day he arrived. Even in 2007 people were bitching like mad on here. Now that he continued to regress on the offense forced a change.
I think comparing the new guy to the old Miles won't work. If we had 2007 Miles I would be opposed to a change

Credit Jimbo for getting out of his way and not trying to force him into some unnatural system, but lets not sit here and pretend like Fisher made Winston. Much more likely Winston made Fisher and he'd be sitting somewhere around 2-3 loss a year without him, which he is.

and for a program that is severely, and i mean severely, lacking in that area, that may be the one thing that pushes it over the top.
don't think jimbo's one to meddle with his DC, so just hire someone competent to run that side and you've got a pretty good team.

Jimbo has shown the ability to overcome and make changes on the fly. Clock management is also and improvement. QB improvement.

this year he has 1 bad loss to a really good team. He whipped Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss worse than Bama did. The same Ole Miss who has whipped Les 2 of the last 3 times we played them

The problem with this line of thought is it is exclusively looking backwards and not projecting forward. Despite his many detractors, Les Miles record at LSU was outstanding. However, he was in his 12th year and it is clear the program was trending in the wrong direction. Like John Madden said, after 10 years or so in most cases it is time for a coach to move on.
It also seems like you are trying to make the perfect the enemy of the good. Will Fisher come here and the replace Alabama as a dynasty? Probably not. But, Miles biggest strength has been recruiting, except 1 position and Fisher has also shown he is a great recruiter. But one that has also developed that one position. When he was here, the QB play was overall good. You can (or at least rational people
) forgive a 2002 type season when you have other seasons where QB was good. When you've proven you can develop the position. He's had 4 QB's drafted in the first round as an OC and HC. 2 #1 overall picks. Combine an effective offense with the type of defense you can recruit at LSU and there is reason to think we could compete at a high level here. Would he do better than Miles did overall? That would be hard, but that's not the question. The question is could he do better than Les Miles WOULD have done over the next few years. I don't see any reason to think no.
ETA: Herman is easily the #1 guy we should go after. Then probably Shaw. Fisher a distant 3rd.

We can pay more for better DC's. Any coach can hire a top notch DC if the program is willing to pay for it. FSU just doesn't spend as much on coordinators as us. We were paying an OC top dollars whenever his passing offense was ranked 100+ all but 1 year.
