During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, Brian Kelly was asked about wide receiver Jack Bech and who they plan to get him more involved in the passing game. Per SDS:
quote:

“I think, quite frankly, as coaches and it starts with me, we’ve gotta get him more involved. You’re going to see that that’s going to take place this weekend,” Kelly said. … “We’ve got really good players at that position and we have to do a better job of getting really good players on the field. There has to be intentional rotation and competition in practice. … Jack’s doing everything he’s been asked of. There shouldn’t be any narrative out there that he hasn’t or he’s injured. We have to do a better job as a coaching staff.”
Bech has two receptions for 22 yards and one touchdown through three games so far.

He's going to have to now, Boutte knocked up the Boutte.

Bech is money. Bech is a leader. His energy is contagious. He is a warrior and he means more to the team than just being a fast Fred Belitnikoff type player.
Bech is a fan favorite and will play on Sundays.

Kelly wants a big body, a true TE for his offense, not a hybrid or H-back. But what LSu needs right now is production in the passing game from that position and to continue to reward effort guys with the necessary talent, playing time. It will be informative to watch how Kelly maneuvers his philosophy against team needs with Jack and Mason.

A good example of wants vs needs is the Center position. Kelly ideally wants a big physical Center that can open up running lanes for Tailbacks and protect the QB in the passing game. Walker Howard will appreciate this one day.

But what LSU needs at this time is a Center that can do an adequate job in both of these areas but has an understanding of the nuances of the position and a consistent snap.
Daniels has a ton on his plate, worrying about a bad snap or missed calls, is not a formula for success and was hurting his development as the team moves into the heart of the schedule.

Kelly is very good at changing how he wants something ideally into what the team needs right now to win.

Wasting Talent, reminds me of when we had Odel and Landry here. Huge waste

Good to hear he is going to try and get the ball to Bech a little more. The problem is the WR room is the deepest on the team. I wonder who and how many will bitch if getting Bech more touches reduces the touches for BTJ and Jenkins. Just saying it isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Weird how other WRs manage to get theirs but somehow he needs help getting involved in the game.

They're not getting 'theirs'. The only people getting shots are 8 and Taylor. But if Bech was getting the check downs instead of Taylor, we would have many more first down.

I just hope JD continues to make progress. Our receivers are SO underutilized it makes me sick. So much talent. So few catches and receiving yards. This offense is good enough for the next two weeks, but will need to be a whole lot better after that.

I really believe that as the season goes on and the offensive line continues to get better playing together receivers like Bech and Boutte will get more involved because Daniels will be able to relax more and find them downfield

It really is a function of the O line performing better and I believe they will. We may have all forgotten the significance of our 2019 O line. Not exactly All-Pro individuals but an excellent unit (reference Joe Moore award)! BK is moving us in the right direction.

All of the WRs are lacking opportunity. JD has some valuable skill sets but throwing to WRs while in route is not one of them.

They’ll have to get creative on finding ways to get him the ball on the perimeter because JD will not find him in the middle of the field. Just go look at where passes are being completed and at what % for his entire career, you’ll see the middle of the field is practically non existent for this QB.

Absolutely, this kid will be an all American and a player in the NFL.

If Daniels isn't going to pull the trigger down field, then Bech needs to be involved in what Daniels is doing. The short quick dumpoff stuff is where Bech thrived last year. Those routes to the flats that Mason Taylor has been getting 5 yards on is whwre Bech can pick uo 1st downs.

I have to believe a lot of our offense has not been used thus far. We beat MSU 31 - 2 from just before half on.

Kelly has outstanding management skills and the best player skill set he has ever had as a coach.

Ya Just Gotta Believe!!

He was literally asked a question about Bech…he didn’t bring the subject up on his own

In that case..coach why not start the game in the hurry up (or quicker pace) where we have excelled instead of going through 2 miserable quarters of straight drop backs?

Quit forcing the ball to Taylor and give it to Bech. He's better..period.

What I am seeing is LSU is doing alot of no huddle without substitutions. To keep the 11 personnel they want Taylor in as the TE rather than going 4 WR with Bech as the Y. They are basically valuing Taylor's presence in the run game more than Bech's in the passing game.

Taylor is a TE and Bech is not. If you watch Taylor closely, you’ll notice he’s a damned good blocker. Bech cant do what he does.

There are a lot of WRs on this team and a pretty good young TE. It’s hard for everyone to eat.

That’s not really the issue. They are all starving for the ball

Can't eat if the qb can't get them the ball.

You would think given Bech’s hands and athleticism he would be an excellent choice to return punts
