Problem is, only 45 players get drafted. NIL is all that almost all of them are ever going to get. Sa'maya didn't put up big numbers (though she led Virginia in rebounding), but her team went as far as LSU did in the tourney.

I mean, they sold out the season tickets a few years in a row, average over 10,000 per home game, sell out numerous games, and had the largest crowd ever a few years ago in the PMACs new configuration at 15k+. So obviously some people care a decent bit.

I love all of those sports, but let's face it, when you win a lot, people care more. There was a time when no one gave a shite about LSU baseball and basketball was gigantic with Dale Brown. Then Skip Bertman happened and baseball became a popular staple at LSU.

We are competitive with other programs and then some. I don't think he is saying that we aren't. I think he's saying he wants a commitment to be competitive with the best programs in the future considering he clearly knows what it takes to win it all and stay elite.

What’s the deal then
Jay knows what other schools are allocating for baseball recruits, coaches and facilities. He wants LSU to be competitive with the best. By all accounts, he outworks just about anyone around. So I imagine he is very aware of what his competitors have and fair when it comes to asking for what he feels he needs to be competitive in fielding a consistently great team.

Seems so odd that Wade would hire him that it makes me wonder if it was a stipulation from some of the possible detractors. But then again, that's just me wondering. I did always like Johnny though despite his shortcomings as a coach. He loves LSU and did recruit some really good players. Hopefully it all works out.
