…My new bride and I are visiting LA for the first time for the LSU/UCLA game.

A few days in LA then driving up the the coast to Carmel. After a one night stay we are going to Napa for a few days to close out the week.

What do you have planned??

Sitka, Alaska over labor day for a solo trip. Booked salmon fishing and a birds, bears, and totem pole tour, probably some hiking as well.

Ugh. A change in employment status recently plus Covid .

A potential trip to Vegas with my parents is all I have on the docket

Supposed to go to Ukraine in November. I’ve been wanting to see Chernobyl for a long time and finally going to do it. (Assuming there’s not more travel restrictions implemented between now and then)

Got a great last-minute deal on a Condo in Big Sky, MT. Driving up from Dallas starting Sunday. I'm really excited, never been to that part of the country before. Really looking forward to getting over to Yellowstone and possibly Grand Teton. It looks like there's some rain forecast early next week, so hopefully that will help with the haze from the fire in California.

Eta: you're absolutely right about having a trip planned being the key to happiness, OP. I always go through a few days of the blues after getting back from a trip because I have to find something new to look forward to.

Had something similar planned.. LA for the game > Big Sur > San Francisco

The missus starting a new job has altered it... we're still doing the LA leg, but she'll return to Chicago and I'll go on to Seattle to visit a friend..

We did a very similar trip to this a few years ago (started in Huntington Beach rather than LA though). It was one of my favorite trips, enjoy!

We just got back from Miami on Saturday night. We're going to New Orleans for a long weekend in September (if you call that a trip), and we're possibly going to San Diego in late October (haven't nailed down plans for that yet).

Our trip to Portland, ME got canceled, so we're also trying to put that on the books again, but we might wait until Spring for that.

Going to Pasadena for the LSU/UCLA game. Going to get out there Monday before the game and maybe drive to Vegas for a couple of days before coming back to the LA Area.

Pigeon Forge with family during Thanksgiving week.

Heading to Austin tomorrow for the weekend.

Going to Madison back-to-back weekends — once for a wedding the weekend of 8/27 and the other for Penn State / Wisconsin over LDW.

Don’t have much else planned, but my family is trying to get me to visit them in NYC in the fall. Still unsure if I want to go, but would probably be mid-late October.

Northern Arizona for a meditation retreat and then 3 days in Scottsdale over Labor Day week.

Hoping to fly out to Orlando NYE to spend a day at Universal and then out to Port Canaveral for a 6 night cruise on the brand new Carnival Mardi Gras with my sister and nephew.

Universal in Oct, Talum for Thanksgiving, Telluride in Feb. Currently planning Scotland for the Summer but that all depends on where we are with Covid.

Agreed, covid has driven me nuts and cancelled/postponed 5 trips.

I just got confirmation on a month long trip to Peru, leaving in September.

Supposed to go to Argentina and Antarctica in December. Probably won't happen, Argentina isn't letting people in and the cruise company will probably cancel very soon. .

Costa Rica and Belize in January.

A month long island hopping cruise on an icebreaker in April. South Pacific islands, the ship sails from New Zealand to Japan to relocate from Antarctica to the Arctic. May not happen due to covid.

Borneo next August.

Australia next fall.

Going to Newport Beach in the first week of December. Also hoping LA allows fans in Sofi stadium, so I can go cheer on my Jags vs the Rams on December 5th while I’m there.
Also I do a lot of in state travel to towns like Steamboat Springs, Estes Park, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Telluride. But I live in Breckenridge, so my life is pretty much a vacation.

I agree. I always like to have a major vacation planned, even if it is a year away.

Our original plan was to do the same thing you are doing but in reverse - Napa, then down the Pacific Coast Highway to Pasadena. But, since we have done some version of that trip several times before, we decided to go to Paso Robles for a few days then to Pasadena.
