The cuts are being put in in advance

Yeah this is what I'm noticing as well. Airlines this time have sufficient heads up/time to organize their cuts in advance compared to a random thunderstorm or snowstorm event which can cripple operations last minute. I'd rather know about cancellations 1-2 days in advance to help with rebooking rather than getting stranded at an airport.

DCA currently at 4 hour inbound delays due to staffing. Several other airports like EWR, AUS, HOU, ORD, PHX also with 30-90 minute delays as well. Airlines may need to cut a lot more flights by next week
You're right, republic, mesa, skywest, endeavor getting hit harder than the mainline flights. But they are still cancelling some flights, some united cancellations below. Mostly chicago, newark, and boston which makes sense for air traffic congestion

Cancellations starting to roll in now on flight aware. If anyone needs rebooking help post here and myself or someone else can try and help you find options

The Federal Aviation Administration will reduce flight capacity by 10% at 40 major airports across the country, officials announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

The decision could cut thousands of flights per day. The restrictions will go into effect Friday morning, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. The airports that will be impacted will be announced on Thursday, officials said.

“Our sole role is to make sure that we keep this airspace as safe as possible. Reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations. This is not based on light airline travel locations. This is about where the pressure is and how to really deviate the pressure,” said Bedford.

This comes after Duffy said earlier this week that the FAA will be forced to shut down the airspace in some areas if the shutdown continues into next week.

Buckle up everyone. Let's hope this doesn't continue to thanksgiving or it's going to get rough
Any updates on how the airport was this weekend with terminal C security shut down?
I think there's a hyatt regency at DFW. Probably the most convenient if people are just coming in and flying out

my plane dropped the most I’ve ever experienced and it legit scared the hell out of me and everyone else on the plane

Worst drop like that I've had was also landing at MSY right before a thunderstorm. Charlotte to Nola and we were landing to the west on runway 29 where you come in over the city (not a usual landing pattern, it's usually to the south on runway 20 or to the east like you on runway 11). The cross winds dropped the plane and even as a normal traveler I was clutching the armrests.

Hopefully all of those on the jetblue are safe after their experience today
In Mizzou game, can't tell if ball is moving as the guys knee just comes down
Virginia looks terrible, how were they 9.5 pt favorites??
I hadn't seen that commercial yet but read about Canada dropping that. Clearly not the case

Now I hope the dodgers make a comeback

Yeah United all the way for your case. If the lake Charles flight to IAH ever cancels it's a quick ride to get to/from Houston at least. If you go through DFW for everything and something cancels you're stuck in Dallas

If you're flying from Seattle, I'd say it's a little far to go to Asia or Australia for only 7 days. By the time you get there, you're going to be jetlagged and that could throw you off a day or two. Same thing with the return flight.

Do you want a beach? Golf? City? Nature? What do you like to do in your free time? History buff? Science nerd?

Initial ideas- Not sure when peak fall season is in the northeast, but someplace like Boston/Maine/New Hampshire/Vermont. Hit up Acadia/other national parks, see some fall foliage, lighthouses, etc.

Mexico City- I haven't been there before, but have heard good things. Not too long of a flight.

Carribean- Hurricane season should be winding down by that point. If you want to just chill on a beach and relax, thatd be a good spot. There's some caribbean island experts on here who can help if this is the route you go

Florida- As crazy as it sounds, it's been really nice down in FL recently. Low to mid 80s highs, super comfortable at night with lower humidity. Could easily go to Miami, Key West, Lauderdale, Tampa, West Palm and go fishing, golfing, beaching, museums, everglades tour. Coming from WA, one of the biggest things I noticed was just getting outside and getting enough sunlight during the winter for vitamin D. Also from Seattle you can get a direct flight to Miami, Lauderdale, Tampa, or Orlando.
BYU terrible clock management to end this half

I think I'd try for bend OR then. The town itself has a lot to do (last blockbuster in the US, great bars and breweries, nice easy to walk downtown). You can fly into Redmond OR and it's a quick drive to Bend. Mt bachelor is a 30 min drive from town and it's a fun mountain to explore (tons of trees). The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the storm pattern and hope for early season snow. Next few weeks look good for PNW to start their snowpack. I went early Feb last year and that was the best snow I had all season at any resort.

Hopefully someone else on here has other suggestions

Sorry to hear about elevation issues.

Any recs on ski resorts with a lower base elevation that might have good conditions late dec/early jan?

Given the anticipated la Nina, PNW supposed to get hammered. I'd lean WA, ID, or OR for early season this year, although Alyeska Alaska is like 100' base elevation and 45 minutes from Anchorage.

Will the family member just be staying at the base while everyone else skis or are you looking for a 'town' with things to do?

Crystal WA doesn't have a town at the base, just skiing. Same with Snoqualmie, Mt Baker, and Stevens Pass. More of a commute for a day trip, might be able to have the family member go into Seattle or surrounding area for things to do?

Schweitzer ID has a base elevation of 3960' with a few spots to stay

If you need a town with things to do, maybe Bend OR and go ski at Mt Bachelor? Cool to ski on a volcano. Bend elevation 3624'

Was going to suggest Jackson WY but elevation is 6300'

Sounds like a bunch of good trips planned.

Won't be staying in Aspen, likely slumming it in Glenwood Springs but got a super cheap flight into ASE so wanted to make something work since I haven't skied there in a while.

I usually stay in Basalt. Have stayed here several times and it's an easy drive to the Brush Creek Park n Ride every day. Free breakfast, free parking, plus Basalt itself has a few good restaurants.

Basalt Mountain Inn
Caught out of bounds, it'll come back. But PI be enforced

Was waiting on RonSwanson to start this again but let's get this party started after seeing a dusting of snow at Crystal Mountain WA this morning :nana:. Looks like a slight La Nina/ENSO neutral winter for this coming season. PNW, Idaho, MT, WY appear to have a slight edge to a snowier winter but anything can happen with the weather patterns. We'll let our resident meteorologists chime in here for their input

Where's everyone headed to this winter? I think I'm going to take fewer, but longer trips this winter to limit the amount of travel required. Ikon Base pass for me.

Trips booked so far:
Alyeska AK 12/17-12/21
Crystal/Alpental/Snoqualmie WA 1/21-1/25
Likely heading to CO at some point to ski with one of our resident posters
This is a good game so far. Not sure we see any fgs tonight
