re: Airlines need to start enforcing carry on size again

If your carry on bag is too long to fit in the overhead bin with either the wheels or the handle facing the isle, you should be forced to check it
If airlines didn't charge $45 each way for a bag, more people would check a bag. I'm now on team 'I'm bringing my bag with me to the plane and will cause a delay in boarding if they need to gate check it because they're turning into greedy airlines and I don't feel like waiting 30-45 minutes at baggage claim.'
As soon as airlines started charging for bags the boarding and overhead bin experience turned into a shitshow
Big ski bag, put skis, poles, helmet, and boots in there along with ski clothes. Keep it under 50 lbs, take carryon with ski pants, one change of ski clothes, goggles, etc. Or you can get a carryon boot bag for your personal item that way you're only checking your skis

The incoming might have been severely delayed and AA had another plane they could put into service.
That's what I read. Any plane flying from Ohare late in the day tends to get delayed so I am a little surprised AA has the same number for ORD-PHX and again PHX-ORD. They're both hubs so pretty easy for AA to just swap planes if the inbound is delayed given the return is the redeye. I'm aware of the usual 'Put a letter at the end of the call sign' trick to make one flight slightly different from another.
I don't know if it was on 8/12, but this timing fits. Inbound flight left ORD late and landed in PHX at 1213am. LINK
Return flight PHX-ORD left PHX at 1141pm and in the air by 1159pm LINK
Follow up question- Does AA or the other airlines like DL/UA have enough room in their flight numbers to give every flight their own number? I'd guess yes but I wouldn't know until looking at all flight totals

One thing is January is prime summer season in New Zealand. I'd aim for there over spain/Portugal just for the month you're going

For the rental, if the company would charge you to return to a different location, one thing ive done in the past is a quick one-way dropoff. Aka turn in the long return for kalispell back to kalispell and then pick up a 'new' car immediately after that youre going to drive back to missoula (if you go that route)
Last time i did this was in Aspen for a ski trip. Had a bigass jeep wagoneer as the rental, turned it in, got a 2WD intermediate SUV and made it across vail pass back to DIA area before the snowstorm hit. Had changed my flights due to aspen airport being a crapshoot in bad winter weather

I’m flying with my family of 5 basic economy is all we do. And our dates are locked in Feb 5-10 MSY to FCA
Alright well now I what I'm working with. You're in for a long day of travel unless you want to spend the money for only one connection.
Cheapest- Nola to Seattle to Kalispell, one stop on Alaska. $2592 for 5 people LINK
Are you renting a car? Wondering if you'd be interested in driving 2 hr 20 min from Missoula to Whitefish? Got it down to $2165 but 2 connections each way if you do that on Delta. And this is so far in advance that i'd expect a schedule change or two and you can hopefully rebook to a one-stop on Delta at least on the way back through minneapolis
LINK
Or you take a one-stop connection and drive 5 hours from Bozeman to Whitefish with flights costing $1987 on American LINK
Oh wait, I got you. Book two one-ways- Fly into Kalispell, fly out of Missoula.
$1097 on Alaska for 5 people on the way there LINK
$893 on Delta for 5 people on the way back, but its from Missoula LINK
Looks like the problem ticket is actually from Kalispell to Nola on 2/10, that bumps up the ticket price to $1500 for a one-way. If you can find a way to get a one-way rental from Kalispell to Missoula, you should come out ahead

Anyone know best time to try and time the flights for pricing?
You rang?
I've seen a few decent fall sales already but flights are pretty expensive. Give it another few weeks. If you book normal economy you can always refare if the price goes down and get the credit for the difference. Don't book basic if you think you'll want to change anything date or time wise
Set up a Google flights tracker for your dates and exclude basic economy (I think you can do that now)
Morning y'all :gmt:

How do y'all like Steamboat?
It's a solid blue mountain with lots of trees and a lot of terrain. I really enjoyed the town there, very easy to walk around
No current trips booked for me yet, but given the el nino, likely looking at Taos NM, Mammoth/Tahoe CA, and maybe Colorado. Very likely doing a mid december trip for a week so I'll follow the snow.
As far as trip timing, September is a low travel season. August you'll get all the families trying to get their last vacation in before school starts, but that dies off after labor day.
Leaving from Nola, BR?

Kansas City
Thats a good one that i forgot about. I had a great trip there as well for a quick weekend getaway
Just got back from watching the movie, thought it was good to pretty good (6 or 7/10). Wish there was a bit more character development (like telemachus), but i enjoyed the various stages of odysseus' journey. One guy i was with hated it, another said it was 7.5/10.
Also did anyone else have a sound issue in the theater? Some scenes (especially the end) came out a bit odd. Friend saw it in imax earlier this week and said similar issues

re: What’s more appealing: DC, Boston, NY, Chicago, SF, Denver, Seattle
Posted by CuseTiger on 7/22/26 at 6:26 pm to GentleJackJones
When in September? What do you like to do on your own?
Could go see the aspens outside of Denver and spend some time in the mountains, Seattle should be nice still before the rainy season (could go hiking, whale watching, explore downtown), Boston fall weather as well with freedom trail, NYC should be good before it gets cold, SF explore the city then head to Muir Woods and go hiking, DC all the national monuments.
Honestly all good choices for September

Argentinian/Spanish Beer and Wine Recs
Posted by CuseTiger on 7/19/26 at 7:16 am
Headed to a friend's pool birthday party today and they'll have the world cup game on. Thinking about bringing some Spanish or Argentinian beer or wine as a gift but I have no clue on brands or best suggestions. They'll be making a meat/chicken/pork paella so anything that would pair with that would be great. Thanks!

In for $25 (sorry not an OT baller). Got burned on here for the last GoFundMe for Tanden but this one seems more legit. I hope you're able to get to a van or someone on here can fix the previous one. Sounds like your dad is an extremely hard worker and I can admire that especially in old age for providing for your family/sister. Good luck

re: Charlotte airport help
Posted by CuseTiger on 7/11/26 at 9:18 am to ChenierauTigre
Mainline to mainline? Mainline to regional carrier (737/A321 to a E145/CRJ900)? Ended up doing D8 to E44 last week with an hour layover and that was fine. Use the restroom before you get off the plane so you don't have to stop on your way.
I'm not a fan of the Charlotte airport if you come in at the end of B or C and have to go to the end of E or far end of A. The gates at the end of those piers were not meant for boarding 6 planes at the same time
When is the flight? If it's not scheduled for a while, I'd expect a schedule change and that might make the layover longer or allow you to switch to another flight option
