Mexican Airport Cartel Issues
Posted by CuseTiger on 2/22/26 at 3:20 pm
Looks like the cartels have been invading a few of the airports in Mexico today. Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta so far in the news

Flights to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara airports have been diverted or canceled by major airlines, including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.
The Mexican government released a statement on Feb. 22 that the Special Forces of the Mexican Army planned and executed an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, to arrest the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rube´n Oseguera Cervantes, commonly known as "El Mencho." Cervantes was killed at the scene.
The United States Department of State Consular Affairs posted on X at 1:17 p.m. that U.S. citizens in the following locations should shelter in place until further notice: Jalisco State (including Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (including Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State. Canada also issued a high-risk travel advisory for Mexico, advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel.

Seems like a great way to frick the people you have the least concern with security wise
Yeah agreed. I think this will hit the big cities the hardest and maybe that's their goal? ATL, JFK, SFO, DEN, LAX, ORD, IAH, etc. Smaller regional airports like BTR, LFT really won't see a difference

Flying today from SLC back to MSY. Will report back and definitely not excited
Let us know! SLC on a Sunday may be a mess with no pre check with all the skiers leaving today
Temporary Suspension of TSA Precheck and Global Entry
Posted by CuseTiger on 2/22/26 at 7:00 am

The Department of Homeland Security is temporarily halting TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, two of the most widely used trusted-traveler programs in the United States, amid a partial government shutdown.
In a statement to CNN regarding the suspension of those programs, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Patrol “are focusing on the general traveling public at our airports and ports of entry and have suspended courtesy and special privilege escorts.”
The suspension of TSA PreCheck lanes at US airports would require enrolled travelers to use standard security screening. It’s uncertain how international passengers returning or entering the US through Global Entry will be impacted as most of this process is done at automated kiosks. The eventual disruptions are likely to increase wait times at customs and passport control.

Anyone traveling anytime soon? I would definitely be getting to the airport early if flying over the next few weeks + needing to check bags. If anyone here is traveling, feel free to post experiences here so others know what TSA or GE wait times are like

Thats awesome..definitely adds more value to those passes
I was surprised at the discount. If i wasn't skiing much next season, I may just bum some friends and family tickets off friends with the ikon instead of paying $900 for the season

Guy never came back after the posts above then started a thread on the OT asking for passes after not getting a response here within 5 hours in the middle of a weekday . Some of us gotta work man

From your ikon pass account, you go to Friends and Family Discounts. Click share and it'll pull up. Idk how much the discounts are going to be but it's usually significant enough to save a decent amount of money

Long shot…..but any chance you have a friends and family Ikon discount voucher you’d be willing to share?
I've got 8 left currently. You need 1 for every day you plan on skiing. How many you need?

Still here
Lemmy had good advice. I tend to look at Google flights to get a decent idea of pricing then book direct with the airlines.

I have a family trip in late May that I need to book for 5. Is there a certain time out that provides the best fares?
From where to where? Specific dates or flexible on timing? Pre covid it was usually 2-3 months out so you're right around the start. I would start browsing now and if you see a flight you like, book a regular economy ticket. You can always rebook a regular ticket and get a credit back if the price drops
re: MCO - late night shuttle instead of people mover
Posted by CuseTiger on 2/4/26 at 8:47 pm to LSUFanHouston
Last time I flew out of MCO I thought I saw the ramps down to the busses in the terminals, was confused why they were there. I think it's right where you catch the train, the ramps are at the end of the train platform. Timing wise no clue but there's usually a ton of people arriving at MCO after 9pm so I'd expect them to have a lot of busses. Dropoff wise, not sure if it'll be at the terminal or closer to baggage claim? Let us know how it goes

I'll be there March 3-18
March 12-15 here . Planning on squaw and alpine for 3 days
I had to de-ice my truck this morning. In Florida...
Supposedly I85 is shut down near Kannapolis NC with 100 stranded cars. From pics and family in the Charlotte area looks like 6-10" of snow has fallen already

Family member outside of charlotte is sending pics, looks like they have at least an inch or 2 so far but the roads are looking bad. Charlotte airport in a ground stop now for American flights LINK
:wha:
:wha:
Probably DFW for me and it was ~8 hours or so if you include the 3 hr flight i took from DFW-EGE that diverted back to DFW once we were over Colorado due to snow, cancelled, next flight cancelled, and then found a connecting DFW-PHX-DEN that had a 3 hour maintenance issue in PHX even though it was the same plane.
I have a feeling some people tomorrow are going to have a long day trying to connect or fly through Charlotte
