Better bang for your buck if you rent in Crystal Beach. Can always take the ferry across if you want to go to Galveston (but the wait times can be a pain as the day goes on). Swedes will have a large selection.

Look in Pirate's Beach and further west all the way to Surfside including Jamaica Beach, Point West. All will be 10 to 30 minutes from Galveston proper.

How big is a large group? I have a house in Surfside that sleeps 8 adults & 6 kids. TD discount available. 60 second walk to the beach on a dead end road.
Surfside is a little sleepy as far as restaurants and stuff but there are benefits to being in a smaller area, not as crowded. With a larger group we’ve always just brought meals or hit up H-E-B on the drive in for groceries.
Surfside allows vehicles on the beach which is good and bad. Easy to setup camp but, like anywhere, there are idiots out there too driving fast or blaring Tejano rap.
Things to do- drink beer, eat too much, flounder on the beach.

The aquarium at moody gardens is better than the one in New Orleans. Pleasure pier, nasa isn’t far to tour. The strand is good at night for dinner. Kemah boardwalk isn’t a far drive.

I don’t get the hate for Galveston. Lots of history and a very underrated food scene
Is the beach 30a? Not even close, but you can have a fun trip. It’s a pretty big city with plenty to do.

Galveston is certainly better than it used to be but unfortunately is still plagued by a certain Culcha element.

I remember watching those home buying shows when they'd be looking at Galveston and it looked horrible. Largely devoid of trees, gross water, rows of homes with no bars, restaurants, or shops mixed in. I guess if you live close and want to sit on the sand for a bit it'd suffice.

We had 17 of us, ages mid 80-s to early 20-s at a house right on Jamaica Beach about 3 years ago. Not alot there, but the beach was very nice and you are not far at all from Galveston

Let’s discuss this a little more.

Moody Gardens Golf Course is a really nice public course to play if anyone in your large group likes golf and can bring their clubs. Make sure you bring mosquito spray if you do
