That's freaking awesome man, congrats.

How did the race go? I’ve worked my way up to 600 yds in the pool nonstop. Hoping to be at 800 yds by the end of May.

That’s awesome man. I’m up to 500 yds swimming without stopping but I’m mixing in some breaststroke with freestyle and not doing flip turns so I’m cheating and catching an extra breath off the wall. Making gains though.

Most of them I just have to he on listening, not participating.

Swimming Headphones

I'm looking to get some headphones for lap swimming. Just curious if there are any that can connect to bluetooth and hold a connection well if my phone is close to the pool so I can swim during conference calls. Bonus if I can use them for running and bike riding also.
I was looking at the H2O tri pro and Shokz open swim pro.

Edit: Grok says I'm SOL on bluetooth in the pool because the water will interfere with the signal.
Tacos. There are so many different kinds and options. I can’t get sick of them.
Hendricks on the rocks with a couple of cocktail onions.

I tweaked a lat doing weighted chins a few weeks ago, it healed over the weekend but reminded me to be cautious as I get older.
Do upscale spa’s count as public? Like hotel zaza spa where you can have coffee, shite, rinse off, sauna, shower all in one place?

Oak Tree, Big Back Billy, and Pool Season are my three favorites that give a good mix of everything. I feel like you could just rotate those three year round and be covered. I like FOTH, but it's really light on legs.

Only program I remember not liking was 70's big, but I just looked at it in my binder and think it would be good to run again, not sure why I didn't like it. Maybe because it mixed things up so much it was hard to see progress over them month. I've got silverback printed out but have never run it. Just looks like a more basic version of big back billy to me.
My wife and I are hovering close to the $3MM net worth at 41/35, but we have lots of expenses and have kids under 5 so I plan to keep working. If either of us gets laid off we would definitely have to cut back on some things. I always joke that if I got laid off, I would take a cushy job with the state and ride it out till I hit certain pension milestones and retire. I also love my job and my routine so I would be hard pressed to want to retire before my kids start college.

Before all the "not possible" we are both petroleum engineers w/ good companies that match 401k's, give good bonuses and stock grants. We should be closer to $4MM but I partied way too hard before we got married. I spent some time working overseas and stashing money in the market (09-13). I have done well on a couple of real estate deals.

Yea it's a combination of things. My kids are 1 and 3 so some weeks I can get in the pool 3-4 days, last week I only got 1 swim in because I was exhausted most of the week. My hips sink in the water and I'm constantly expending more energy than necessary because of bad technique.

I also get frustrated. I can crush it in the gym, go out and run no problem, bike for hours, then 30 min in the pool and I'm spent. I'll hit 25 dips without batting an eye in the gym but then swim 50 yds and my triceps are on fire. I just don't understand. I'll power through though, it's my goal for this year now, to get to that mile swim. I think I'm just gonna get some lessons/coaching lined up so I can get my technique right, I really think if I can get my hips/legs to stop sinking in the water I'll start making big gains quickly. I've watched a million videos, but it's just not clicking for some reason.

Still training. I can do the half ironman bike and run no problem, but still can't swim more than 400 yds without needing a break. If I don't have a breakthrough by May I'm gonna just break down and pay for a swim coach.

An overshot sort of works like a chinese finger trap, you have a guide or hook on the bottom so you can rotate it if needed to get the drill pipe off the wall of the casing or open hole then slide the overshot over the pipe. Once engaged you can hopefully just pull it free.

Overshot is always first run you want to make so you still have to option to run wireline below the top of fish to cut if needed. Next option would be to go in with a "spear" which spears into the pipe. If those two don't work, you're talking a washpipe situation, milling situation, etc. Depending on what you have stuck in the hole.

Depending on the situation you have, sometimes it's cheaper to cement up what you left in the hole and sidetrack to drill that section over. With high spread rates of deepwater rigs, fishing jobs can get expensive quick.

Depends, I would imagine on land jobs, they don't keep fishing tools on site. I run deepwater ops and we keep usually first run fishing tools for drill pipe out on the rig for situations like this where we can at least get the fishing assembly made up and going in the hole while we mobilize more tools and a fishing hand. Each fishing job can get very specific so you can't keep all the tools on the rig and it gets expensive. Fishing is sort of an art form and there aren't a ton of guys who have that expertise. Usually by the time you jar, free point and backoff, get out the hole you can get a fishing hand flown out so doesn't really pay to keep one on the rig.

I could analyze this to death, but the dude who opened the elevators is the derrickhand, wearing extra cold weather gear and a harness. He was either headed up or just came down and it wasn't his job to touch the elevators. Either way, if there wasn't open hole below them they've got a box up fishing job on drill pipe. Should be straightforward to get over it and pull it if it was just a drilling assembly. I've been able to go in with drill pipe and screw into the box and pull it before the fishing guy got to the rig, but depends on hole geometry and luck.

Depends on what they were doing. Latching on to the fish with an overshot should be easy. If they were just going in with dumb iron to drill out a casing shoe, quick and easy. If they had an expensive LWD might have to pay for some tools. If they were running liner into open hole and it gets differentially stuck that could turn into a cut, pull, and sidetrack.
I debated posting to defend Galveston, but what the hell. We bought a place on Follets Island right across San Luis Pass from Galveston and it's been phenomenal for us. We can be at our place down there in an hour from downtown Houston. My kids are under 5 and we are down there almost every weekend. They can run around freely, ride bikes, etc. without me having to worry. It gets them exposed to nature which is important to us. Water and sand aren't as nice as Florida, but it's accessible and fun.

It's pretty much empty on the beach year round where our place is, you almost have the beach to yourself anytime you are down there. I would say a lot of people who went to Galveston once and hated it probably went on some holiday weekend where it was packed. I can wake up and jog on the beach or surf fish for sunrise and have the beach to myself except for one or two people camping. We are on the bay so we crab, fish all day, hit the beach if we want, or take the kids to Galveston to do stuff (aquarium at Moody is better than the one in New Orleans). I can just throw all our stuff in a golf cart and drive onto the beach with little effort and spend the afternoon/sunset on the beach. If the kids decide after an hour they want to do something else, it takes 3 min to throw their crap back in the golf cart and drive back home. As previously mentioned, bonfires on the beach and surf fishing at night is a blast. Night flounder gigging or just paddleboarding around on the bay is phenomenal because you're alone out there. I can also just hop on the jet ski and be out to the tankers in 20 min, trolling for mahi when the weather is calm.
