I mean the last few iterations were nowhere close to this and maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see where US development is THAT substantially different in the last decade.

This isn’t the difference between the 90s and early 2000s

gregg was terrible

i think our team talent has never been higher and you add in a legit european style coach who will actually play offense, it's unlocked a new level for them

Him smirking and signaling to the team because Bolivia tied Panama in the other group game during Copa America two years ago while we were playing like arse and we got eliminated anyway still annoys me.

Last WC team had a lot of great stuff. Ball control was fantastic, outstanding passing and possession in the midfield. They just couldn’t attack for shite.

It was mostly these guys in their early20s playing first World Cup. This team added the first bonafide goal seeking striker we have ever had to that group who is now older and more experienced.

For the most part. But it also took a while for our players to break out of the CONCACAF style we utilized for fricking YEARS.

Our guys play in some of the best leagues in the world and are more accostomed to playing more aggressively because that’s how most of the top leagues play, especially Premier League, which is known for a higher pace of play and being aggressive as frick.

Which fits our players and our manager (who also managed in the PL.)

He’s got them dialed in right now. Australia put up very little pressure most of the game. The US has scored 6 goals in two matches! Only given up

I would say that we seem to have more players playing in legit Euro leagues than before. Not just on teams, those players have honed their skills and we are not as afraid to be on the field. Don’t look as star struck as before.

Also think as fans, the more that the premier league and other games have been on tv has elevated the fans base knowledge and also what these younger players are seeing on tv. It’s taking a few decades, but maybe we are turning a corner on youth development

I’m happy USA is doing good. However, the group stage is way more diluted this World Cup given the expanded field. I’m sure that might have something to do with it.

Every player in our starting lineup plays regularly on a legit European club team except Ream, who did so for the previous ten years, and our goalie.

Going back to like 2014 we had maybe 2-3 players in that situation. Huge progress on that front.

Berhalter was also terrible especially after the 2022 WC. Team just stopped responding to him.

Yeah but his ball skills on the sidelines and his sneaker collection were on point.

You could argue that what Bora did in 1994 was nothing short of amazing

I feel like we’re finally physical now. We’re not afraid to push and shove. It should be what we’re known for

May have something to do with the USSF firing him, then hiring him back like the idiots they are.
