No the frick they are not. They are escorting tankers as we speak. Right now the strait is shipping at 75% of prewar volume. That will soon be at 100%. This has triggered pipe lines to avoid the strait which long term will completely neuter Iran.

Incorrect. They are “facilitating” the passage a very small number of ships by providing overwatch and air support. Very few US Navy vessels actually transit the strait, if any. I know a few months ago a couple destroyers went through and pretty much emptied their magazines defending themselves from missiles and drones. The carries and amphibious ships are far out at sea which means most of the destroyers are far out at sea protecting them.
What we should be doing is sending convoys of destroyers up and down the strait every day and night acting as huge targets that the Iranians can shoot at. This keeps the attention off the tankers and depletes Iran’s ammo stocks. We also need to seize some of the smaller islands in and around the strait with ground troops. Again, these guys will be bait acting as a sponge for Iranian missiles and drones. Of course after we seize them we need to flood them with air defenses to shoot down as many Iranian air attacks as possible, again…depleting Iran’s supply and keeping attention off the oil tankers.
